savage 110 BA .338 lapua

i also looked at a remington 700 police in 338 lapua...i tested this and the savage on the same day....the savage was better on the day....

one interesting thing to note is that the remington magazine is shorter.....my loads at 3.75 over all would not fit the magazine......

my friend has now brought the remington and it is away being re barrelled and fitted with a TRG brake.......this has to tell you something???

I have been doing load developement on one today. It is a very ungainly rifle and not the sort of thing that you would carry very far. It was a 1/2 MOA shooter from new but with only 100 rounds down the tube it has dropped off to 1.5 MOA at best.
I suspect barrel fouling.
It gets very good velocity with 95 grains of H1000 and the 250 Accubond at 3030 fps from the 26" barrel.
I have cut my hand on sharp edges on the extended side rails.

I have a .338 RUM and a .338 Edge built on Remington actions and they are great hunting rifles. This is the way to go, not Savage.

Savage now has the 338 Lapua in an HS stock and in the Long Range hunter configurations, most people have also had very good luck with Savages built into 338 RUM's or Edges. The 110BA is a cheese grater!!

It says your friend prefers custom barrels, which isn't something that is uncommon. I do too. And to compare the two rifles is silly. If you set the Remington up like the Savage behemoth is set up, it would shoot just as well as you perceive you savage does. Heck I have experience with both and the Remington is so close that I would go with that over the savage just because it is a smaller package and you could actually carry that around.

Personally I would get the long range hunter, and put a new tube on it if you must.

Or even better a long action savage target action with a DBM and go to stockade and have a stock made with the AI bottom metal. So far your in it for about 800 bucks inluding shipping. Find a quality barrel threaded and chamber for the savage action and at 1200 bucks you are set for optics.

I would take a remington 700 every time over a savage. They just feel and look cheapo to me. Also for a investment they are awful. The bolt assembly on the savage just looks.. well pathetic..Remington 700's have more than proven themselves in accuracy so I don't see the accuracy argument. There is no way I would get a Lapua on a savage action.

I love my remingtons. But I think savage is the way to go ,yea its bulky and to heavy ,but you can load the 300 grs ers long to maxamize volocity. I don't much care about looks ,just want proformace and accuracy , and they do that .

You do realize that there is more than enough room for powder with 300 grainers in both right? And loading them with a longer OAL has nothing to do with velocity. You get to max chrage well before having to seat too close to the lans.

Well, I hope the BA lives up to the hype. I have one showing up tomorrow. Seems most posts didn't like the bulk, but when I shouldered the rifle I found it to be very comfortable, even if it is like carrying a cinder block. I'm a big skinny guy with big paws. I wanted a bigger caliber rifle, my largest now being a 7mm rem mag and my tack driver rem700 30-06. I just love hitting groundhogs with it. Now if I can just find some ammunition locally. This will stink. It's the first gun I've ever bought and NOT had any ammo for!!

Start reloading. You will see your accuracy go way up and cost way down. I don't shoot any living thing past 500 yards with factory loads. They just aren't good enough for me.
