Win 70 LA feeding problem

I have a winchester model 70 in 30-06. The problem is when I load 4+1 every time it goes to feed the cartrige coming up on the left side (oppisite the bolt handle, it either pops up or the bullet end pops up and causes a jam. Anyone ever had this or know of the fix? Thank you for your time!

This common with lots of rifles when the mag box is stuffed full.

Lots of the Mod 70 match rifles had this problem and the mag box/well had to be extended
just a little.

The solution is to load 3+1 and with the spring tension being less it should fix the problem.

I like to do this on all of my hunting rifles so that when the hunt is over I can remove the
chambered round and place it in the mag box for safety. (Hold it down with your fingers
and allow the bolt to override the round). this way it is only a bolt throw away.

I tried 3+1 and it fed the first 2 fine but when it got to # 3 (first one on the left still got the same problem. Do I need to maybe heat or weaken the feed spring under the follower? Thank you for your help!!

It sounds like the rails are not cut right.

Is your rifle a push feed or a controlled feed ?

Push feed. I took the spring out last night and took some black tape and pinched the two forward bends of the spring together and taped on width of tape around each bend and reinstaled. Worked like a champ! Put 1 + 5 in the well and cycled it as fast as I could on the bench 5 times with no problems. Thanks for you input and help!!!!gun)
