Browning A-bolt composite stalker

Anyone got experience with these guns? I heard that they have a really skinny barrel and can be finnicky with most loads.

I have a chance to get a 300 win mag in a composite stalker (Brownings cheapest version of the abolt), but I plan on re-stocking it and doing a trigger job on it.

Other than that, is there much more I can do???

Great gun out of the box ! mine is a 7mm rm and I took off the plastic stock and replaced it with a wood one that I bought off a member here . trigger is at 2.1 pounds . just ran 40 round down the tube and after 10 let it set for 10 min then did another 10 rounds . it was fine great shots . grouping was beyond what I expected . I will buy another maybe try the x bolt in a 338 wight gold I think will be my next . More info I bought mine used for 300 and the guy sold it to get a Remington Sendero in the 7mm rm. 3 months has gone buy now he wish he stayed with the a-bolt . he is 1500 into it and cant group what I can . Thanks for the info. sounds like you got a good deal and a good shooter. I am surprised that barrel didn't heat up on you though and start scattering the groups.

we where surprised allso . it did a great job . mine is a stainless stalker I forgot to add that part.

i was planning on putting a Bell & Carlson medalist stock on it, and doing a trigger job. the medalist has an aluminum bedding block in it. I was going to see how it will do with it.

forgot to ask you earlier, what the muzzle diameter of your gun is. just curious if Browning uses a heavier "magnum" barrel on these guns than they do on there non magnum long actions like other manufacturers. I'm hoping it's atleast .650 inches at the muzzle.

Try out the Timney trigger spring kits. Took 10 minutes to install and makes the factory trigger awesome.

So far I have had 3 Browning A-Bolts and I like them...Light to carry, thumb safety, comfortable tupperware stock and good shooters too. I still have the 7mm. It has become my go-to gun for everything from distant 'yotes to elk.

A-Bolt has the same problem as Remmy rifles...short magazines. VLD bullet loads need to be hand fed, or you can have your magazines extended like I did.

The skinny barrels get hot quickly, but still group well. It's just that heat kills accuracy in the long run, so I let the barrel cool every 3 shots.

My wife has a Abolt comp in 280 rem. This gun shoots .75moa all day with 160gr. partitions. The trigger is crisp and clean (don't know what the actual lbs are but around 3-3.5). The best part is that I bought the gun used and in great shape for $400. My hopes were for a 1.5 moa gun at best but now I am thinking of trying to shrink the groups to .5moa.

Sounds like you guys got some good shooters at some good prices. I was thinking of trying VLD's also, but have heard that they are too long as well and don't feed out of mag's very well.

wicked accurate from what I've heard. I want to try some in my 7mm mag, but they are also pricey.
