I am pretty excited about this. I am going to build a pair of 6.5x284's on tikka t3 actions. A right handed one for me and a Left handed one for my dad. The barrels I ordered are Krieger #4's finished at 26" I am going to use the Helmick Arms Laminated monte Carlo stocks. With a Tubb oversized recoil Lug.... I am kinda bummed because the barrels are 16 weeks out, but I hope to have them both done before Christmas.

Those are nice looking stocks. One of my local gun shops has a t3 lh in 243win I was eyeballing the other day. I didn't like the synthetic stock and figured my options for a nice replacement were slim. Now I might have to go back and check it out.

going through the same process as you, only in 25-06 and a wild dog varmint stock. how does the tubb lug work with the t3's arrangement?

Allready have bolt knob and aluminium shroud. after the 25, will do the same thing with a 270 wsm that i have :) can't decide between a sporter, or varmint stock though.

Mike,
I too just started a 6.5-284 T3 build and have the same reservations about weight. I ordered a Pac-Nor #5, 3 groove ss; which they claim is 3.9 lbs and .700 at 28 in. I had it crowned at 26 because this duplicates the 6.5-284 Montana rifleman barrel on my M70(which is balanced and does'nt seem heavy with factory wood and IOR 10X).So we'll see in about 10 weeks. Still torn betheen McMillan A5 and Manners T4, anybody with Tikka related suggestions?gun)

Robertson composites also inlet for the tikka, has anyone tried one of these.

I can't speak to the A5. But, I have a T4 which is a very solid and heavy stock. There are surely better choices if you want to reduce weight.

the MCS T4 looks pretty sweet but i seem to have lost most of my wood stocked rifles and have a bunch of fiberglass/composite sitting around so i want to get some nice wood back in the collection. that is why I chose Helmick

If you decide you want something other than wood here's a cool chassis for the T3. I will probably build one with it myself. Cost is on par with the AICS 1.5 at $880 though.

Welcome to KRG

I am a huge fan of wood stocks, especially English walnut, but I have never had a composite and I'm pretty rough on guns. I built a .284 for a buddy on a Stiller Tac 300 in an A5 magnum fill last year and I liked it but it was a little heavy. I really wanted an A3 sporter but McMillan said no inlet for Tikka.gun)
