Let's see your Varmint rifles !

I was looking at this thread... Dang there's some nice rifles here... I gotta post some pics haha. Nothing custom, but most shoot fairly decent.

Remington 700 BDL Varmint in .222 Rem, topped with a Weaver V-24 in std Leupold 1 pc. base and rings. Refinished, hand-checkered, and inlayed stock. Custom engraving on BDL floorplate. About a 0.3-0.4" shooter, consistently.

Savage 93R17 BTV in .17 HMR with Tasco 6-24 scope in Weaver rings. Nothin fancy, longest shot with this was a one-shot kill @ 160 yds. Wind has a major effect on this bullet though.

Winchester Pre-'64 Model 70 Hunter Grade in .220 Swift with a Lyman Super Target Spot 10x. Shoots under an inch, best group ever was about 1/4" center to center, but the throat is pretty shot out.

Savage model 12 Long Range Precision RBLP in .22-250 Rem with a Leupold VX-III 6.5-20x50 LR SF with Varmint Hunter's reticle in Talley 2 pc. ring/base combo. This rifle is a shooter any way you look at it. 0.1" is not uncommon, with 0.2 the (sickeningly) consistent group size (haha). This is my go to varmint gun, the only downside is the weight; it's about 16 and change, unloaded.

This really isn't a varmint rifle or a true custom, but gotta show it off :).

4 shots @ 100 yds. = 0.221". This group was the first one after I had my stock painted, so it was not 100% sighted in. I just slapped scope back on and shot, I guess it wasn't really far off for taking off the scope and just putting it back on. I don't have the proof on me right now haha, but this rifle will shoot consistently about .75" @ 350 yds. (some smaller some bigger, smallest was about 0.541" @ 350 yds.). I have done it, with witnesses of course... I have shot this rifle out to 500 yds. and it performs very well.

@bow - glad to see your barrel de-resonator - I use them on my rifles too - I've actually never taken it off my cooper (1 page back) and I've shot .105" at 100 yrds with Siera Blitzkings, I'm to scared to move it to see if it really works... have you noticed anything? gun)

I also notice you have yours in a different spot - did you test it all along your barrel?

My Marlin .17hmr shots .250" at 100 yrds all day long with floating barrel and adding a rifle basix trigger, hows the savage?

The barrel de-resonator doesn't make any difference on my 22-250, but the barrel is so heavy on it, if I take it off I can't put it on anything else. So it's not hurting anything so I left it on :D. It did make a difference of about 1/16 - 1/8" with the HMR. My HMR shoots 0.2 - 0.3" @ 100 yds., with decent wind of course haha.

The de-resonator placement is recommended to be 3/4" from the stock on a non-floated barrel and 3/4" from the end of the barrel on a free-floated one.

Nice rifle you got! I thought about buying one, as they are shooters! But after hearing what they're doing politically, I don't know if I could agreeably support them.

Politically was Dan Cooper, as they have made him leave... anyways I have Dan's personal email and he is a great guy no matter what...

Ok, I haven't heard that about the placement of the de-resonator, maybe I will put mine at the end of the barrel an see how she works on the Cooper, My Marlin 17hmr shoots 1/4" at 100yards without it, but it has a bull barrel that I floated an added a few ounce trigger...

Not starting a political argument lol... So take it as a personal opinion, nothing against the guy himself. Just that I don't uphold his political views. That's what makes this country great. As long as we can keep it that way...:D I'm about as far right wing as you can get... but that's not what this thread is about.

As for the HMR, the Savage is a bull barrel (21" I think) that is free-floated to about 1" in front of the action. It has the AccuTrigger, which is not perfect, but pretty decent for a factory trigger. I have it set so it breaks at about 2 lbs. (with some minor tweaking) with minimal creep and overtravel. It's ok for what I'm usin' it for. I only shoot it to about 250 yds. on targets, max it at about 200 on varmints, beyond that the little bullet loses a lot of everything .

Good luck, and have fun. Sounds like you got yourself some shooters!

i really like the nice colour scheme you have chosen there... looks cool.

Thanks for the compliment TRG but, I can't take credit for the paint. I purchased the rifle used a couple months ago. The color scheme was one of the things that attracted me to the rifle as well.

More of a dedicated songdog rig but will send a few 70gr's down the tube at PD's now and then.
