I cant seem to find a rifle i fall in love with on first sight. Im looking for a trophy wife. Deer hunting in mich. 700 by 700 field surrounded by woods. It would take a tactical type stock-fluted barrel-24in. tube or more-great trigger-heavy is good not walking around with it.

Mabe a 400yrd shot would be taken after practice. So even a 25 06(leaning toward) is a little overkill. (love 6.5 bc but a flat shooting over the counter round???)

Kickin a** at the range a plus. Already looked at rem. and sav.

1000$ before scope. I will reload as soon as im convinced i can do better than modern factoury loads.

6.5x284 would be a great caliber for what you want. Great in target and kills stuff quite dead out to 900yds. It's flat, fast, and capable. But since factory fodder is your prime directive at the moment, then I would suggest the 6.5 Creedmore due to the available ammo by Hornady. From 400 to 600 yards a good solid 243 will get it done too. Obviously the old standard of the 270 Win will do the trick. Those are my suggestions.

How about a Weatherby Accumark in 257 Weatherby? New ones are about $1600 but a used one can be had for $1000. I've got one and love it. Heavy enough to be steady for long shots but it can also double as a carry gun if you aren't doing any serious hiking. And they are also one of the most pleasing to the eye of any factory offerings.

your best bet is : rem 700 (300) ; bc medalist stock (204); krieger barrell (300+150). 6.5-284 or you pick. senderos and accumarks are good but no match for a rem/krieger

A Trophy wife is worth way more than $1k.

Have a look at the Blaser R93. ...great looks, functionality, and performance.

Blazers are awsome im more of a tactical 2 kinda guy.

I did just learn of a savage 110 tactical i was not aware of. Did they stop making then? Anyone know how they shoot?(and feel - fit)
And what cal.s they offered.
If 6.5 06 were common it would be that but (settled gun))on 25 06. I have a great shooting 270 win.

Savage makes a 110-BA in 338 LM and perhaps a couple of other calibers.

Howa also makes some tactical style varmint rifles in various calibers.

There are plenty of good options for under $1k.

I'm not sure about the price or availability, but Sako TRG 22 in 260 Rem might otherwise fit the bill.

They have a .308, 300 Win Mag, and 338 Lapua in the Savage 110/10 BA models.

Mcmillan A5 would also be a great stock but it puts him north of 1k. I'd say for less that 1K get a tika or savage in .308 or creedmore.

How about a 264 WIN. MAG.? My buddy has one and he is shooting close to 6" groups with a bipod at 1,000 yds. One of the flattest shooters out there with great BC. 140 gr. Berger Match VLDs BC = G7 313.

PS: This is the stock I got plus a few options like adjustable cheek, 3 pillers & under forearm rail & blind sling swivel under butt stock:
