Went out on a quick bear hunt this afternoon, and man do I mean quick. Took longer to get into a good shooting position than it did to find him. Not by any means a long shot, ranged at 237yrds, hit him with my .358 Norma 225 grn Game King. Through the near-side leg and into the chest where it took out both heart and lungs. Not much movement after that. Not by any means a monster bear but he'll make awsome cheese smokies and sausages. The pic is with me (on the right) and my hunting partner

As a side note and a point of pride (to me anyways) this was the first annimal I have taken with my own handloads. Been loading on and off for a few years now but was never confident enough in my consistancy to try them on anything other than steel and paper, always had a guy from work load up my hunting rounds. I would have to say that in the case of this one I think I got it right:)

what part of the country are you in? are spring bear hunts common?

I live in the central interior of British Columbia, Canada. In a city called Prince George and yes spring bear hunts are a yearly thing. They open up on April 30th I think, close on june 15 for their mating season then open up again for fall hunting on august 15th till the end of november. There is a spring Grizzly hunt as well but to get that you have to put in a draw for it and I'm not too sure if the dates for it are the same or not

You can read and study it to death. But, there's no satisfaction quite like getting out there and doing it yourself.

Great job!! Congrats!!

So you can hunt them in both the spring and the fall. At some point the sows have to have cubs (the spring??) and i would think it wouldn't be a good idea to hunt when there are cubs.

They will have the same cubs this fall...... You just have to be certain before pulling the trigger..
