Im in the process of building a 338 Rum. The problem I have is brass availablility. No one seems to have any in stock at this moment. Can a person form it from 300 Rum or 375 Rum brass. Is it feasable to push the shoulder back .01 without any problems. Has anybody tried this before? any help appreciated.

I haven't done it, but is should be as simple as a FL size and a trim.

Have you tried Midway or Sinclair, OR buy a box loaded until back order gets in?

midway is on backorder until july I havent checked sinclair but everybody else is on backorder. I was thinking of loaded rounds. Just hate spending the money but I do need breakin loads so they would work. kind of saving that as a las ditch effort.

I feel your pain brother, I LOVE my RUM but trying to find brass made my ears smoke... Thank god I was able to rat hole a couple hundred. Nosler is going to offer the 338 RUM but as far as I know it hasn't been released yet & at $60 per 25!!! (according to Nosler's site).

Hopefully it is better quality, I don't hate the Rem brass but dang, the primer pockets are soft.

Regarding loose primer pockets in the 300 RUM which probably also relates to the 338 RUM. It has been my experience that you will get about 1 to 2 percent loose pockets on Nosler or Remington brass. I haven't noticed a difference in any of them. The RUM's produce a lot of pressure.

I think Im going to bumm some 300 ultra brass give them a dose of lube and see if I can tear my press off the bench. I figure if I can form 20 pieces that will get me through untill there is some avaiable. Any advise on how much to trim off the necks for starters. I will be pushing the shoulder back about .09 I was thinking about .05 just to make it a little easier. I might not even trim them untill after.

I just did it with a piece of 7mmRUM. It worked fine with a nice dose of Imperial sizing wax. It looked just like 338RUM but with a long neck. Trim to 2.750" after sizing.

My buddy just crunched down 20 300 RUM to 338 RUM and it worked just fine with Imperial wax, didn't dimple at all. I kinda wonder what would happen if a guy had a reamer set up to use the sized down 300 brass with no trimming. Might improve throat life?

the best brass to use for your 338 rum is RWS. i use it with my edge and it is awesome! i think Norma also makes 404 jeffries which is what i use in RWS.

I have done it without any problems. I just used sinclairs sizing wax and made sure to rub a little in the case mouth after I trimmed a little off the case and before necking it up in the Full Length 338 Rum Die. They worked well in the rifle I tried them in.
