Looking for a bit of advice from those 'in the know' and who have used both reticles. I cant seem to make up my mind between the NP-R1 & 2. I have decided to get an 8x32 NightForce but struggle to pick the reticle.

This will go on a 6.5/284 that has been topped with a Leupold 6.5x20 for about a year and recently replaced by an 8x25. The rifle sees mainly paper and steel to 1,200yds but is also frequently used on cull hunts in W TX (most shots in the 500-750yd range).

I dial for elevation and hold for wind. I usually rely on the range finder and not the reticle.

Anyone have any input to help me choose?

Thanks in advance!

NP-R2: I like this because there are less hash lines than the NP-R1. I have never used the NP-R1, but I have used the NP-R2.

I have used both plus the MLR.

The R1 is great for quick reference of bullet impact to required change in dial setting without too much thought. Just read off the reticle the required change, dial and shoot.

R1 4 me.

I got a NP-R2, and said what so many say" the NP-R1 is too busy".
Then I bought a NP-R1 and realized that it is not too busy, I like the NP-R1 better. You can not go wrong either way, but I think the NP-R1 is more useful.

I prefer the NPR-2 hands down over the NPR-1 the 1 is too busy. When useing the reticle for hold overs in the hunting field the NPR-2 is by easier to use in my expereince.

I can see that these responses aren't gonna help you at all.:)

I went with the NP-R1 because it has more hash marks.

I'ts looking like personal preference will carry the day......

If one wants to use the reticle for hold over to enhance speed with a shot on animal where time is of the essence, the NPR-2 is much easier and faster for this. Less confusion with the marks

+1 for me I prefer the R1 just my opinion

I prefer the NP-R2, have it on 2 , 2.5x10 and 3.5x15. Like others I find the R1 to be busy.
On another thread I remember a forum member giving this piece of advice: 500 yards and under go with the R2, over 500 yards go with R1.

I dissagree with the 500 yard rule. I have never seen a need for the NP R-1 at any distanece. I have never experienced a problem with the NP R-2 at 1000 yards with no turret correction
