338 Edge load development

Just got my 338 Edge and it seems to shoot well. I have done some load work-up at 100yds and then at 300yds. Accuracy doesn't really seem to vary greatly between powder charges and seating depths. I am shooting 375 RUM brass, 300 SMK, CCI 250, H1000 (90-93grs), and I seated bullets from a slight jam to .120 off rifling and didn't see much difference between loads. Anyone else find this too? I am overall pretty happy with performance but would like to get the most out of it I can and find a load to settle on so if anyone has suggestions on some tweaking I can do I'd appreciate it.

Seems like you are right in where the "magic" load for the Edge is at.

Yep, one of Len's. I have 75 rounds through it now.

An edge will shoot anything. I first got my rbros 338 edge travis broke in barrel and worked the load as his standard package. The load was 93 grains of h-1000 300 smk. He told me to load up 90 g 91,92 and 93 in case of powder lot differing him being close to the pacific and me close to the atlantic. I loaded 1 of each 91, 92 and 93. Shot a 1/2" group 3 shot group with 3 different powder charges pretty amazing.

Thats what I am finding too. Point of impact is not changing either. I think this thing will shoot whatever I put in the barrel. I guess I just need to be happy it shoots well and spend more time shooting than prepping brass and working up loads. I think I will stick with 92grs and just practice because I think range time is going to help more than anything at this point.

Agree, but long range time. Boz on here gave me a great tip when i first got mine. Dont waste your time with a gun like this at 100 yards shoot long range. as far as prep it gets the bare minium and shoots like a bench gun. what an amazing chambering the edge is. Good luck and have fun with it.

Yeh, after sight in 100yds is boring and a waste of components.

What you are finding is pretty common with the Edge from what I have seen. It is pretty much the 308 of the big boys. Doesn't care what you load it with, it just plain shoots. As Mike said, I generally ask guys to back off a couple grains and work up to my test load for powder differences, and then go from there. 91-93 grs is the area where we run them the most. I have gone up to 94.5, but the ES started getting higher(out of the single digits!), so I backed it down.

what velocity are you seeing with the 300 smk's in that range Travis ?

did you ever shoot the 250 SMK or Scenars ?

We run 93 gr with the 300SMK at 2920 in our 31" barrels. The same load runs 2880-2900 in 30" tubes, 2850ish in 28". 94.5gr ran just over 2970 in the 31" barrel and 2950 in the 30". I didn't ever try the 250's. I have a couple boxes of the 265 Alum tip bullets that I need to try someday. Been sitting on the shelf for a couple years now.
