Whitetail w/300 SMK?

Shot 2 last year with the 300 SMK. One at 498, and one at 726. They worked great.

Lets see, I shot em with my 22, and one of my best w/22 mag, and my son took a 155" @ 350 w/223 62 gr tsx, hmmm, yah I think it'll work:D

Do the 300 SMK seem to expand much, or come apart like Bergers do? I guess I should have asked what characteristics does the bullet have upon impact rather than will it work. I think the Edge would kill a whitetail even if you loaded spitwads.

i have only killed 2 and both at same range of 450. First one i spined not fair to give comment on it. Second one the wind died as i touched off and hit where i was aiming. It hit little to far behind shoulder no bone or good vitals tore 2 good holes deer run 25 yards. For a bad placed shot it did well, ofcourse dead id dead though. i did miss a cow elk last fall at 315 shooting off hand still ****es me off.

I killed 2 a couple of years back. First was a 150 lb buck at 760 yards with a high shoulder shot, DRT. The second was a 120lb doe at 1003 yards that I spine shot. She dropped right there, but I had to finish off when I got to her, since her front legs still worked. This was out of a 338 Lapua.

I have shot them form 200 to 1400 with the SMK and have even seen them shot out to 1900+, performance was good at all distances. When you get past 1200 or from an Edge the bullet doesn't seem to open as well but that was to be expected, it still works well without optimum expansion.

I agree with Shawn, I think a whitetail would be toast at any range you could hit him with a 300 grain 338 bullet going through him. Might not have much left to put on a slice of toast with a close shot but.

I've had several experiences like the one in Broz's picture. I can't think of one I've shot under 450 yards with this bullet and it devastated everything it's hit. I try to hit them through both shoulders so they can't escape to be stolen by another hunter...and so far so good!
