Ruger M77 MKII threads/Build

i am doing my own action blue print on my 7mm rem mag. the threads on the action, is this a standard thread across all manufactures. Can anyone get me the thread info on the action? I plan on facing the action and the lands where the bolt lugs rest and lapping the bolt lugs, then chasing the threads. I am a machinist teaching myself gun smithing.

checked it with my gauge and came up with 1-16 tpi (will try that)

machines i am using

mazak qtn-250 lathe

mazak v510 vertical mill

making own picatinny rails for scope and bipod also.

any suggestions would be much appreciated.

SWEET!

I'm the oposite, No machines. I'd like to teach myself machining.

Your mesurements sound like they are in the ball park. I couldn't tell you what Ruger threads are, for sure. I deal mostly in ARs.

I'm seriously interested, in picatinney rail for Ruger's with the crazy integral perches. (20MOA)

The guys in this other thread are talking about bases for the M77. How close are you on that project? I could be interested.

IIRC, the picatinny rail mentioned on the thread is for the M77 not the M77 MKII. Someone even commented that it was designed for the pre-integral design ... but not really sure.

1-16 tpi is correct. Not all manufacturers use this thread, but some do. The FN FAL and the Winchester Model 70 use this same thread. I read somewhere that some Sako rifles use 1-16tpi, but I am not sure which models.

If your referring to the one on the hide, that is someone else. I have one in the works just have been slow to finish it with my current work load and none of it involving rugers at the moment.

Anyhow, I should have the fixture for the lathe work on the action done this week and also the Picatinny scope base. After those are done i will make the picatinny base for the 2 swivel lugs on my stock so i can mount a atlas bipod on. The scope i will be placing on my rifle will be a Swarovski Z5 5-25x52 P BT.

No problem Ed, that was a good little read about rugers, lots of guys have had pretty good results with them. For a factory gun they are a little under-rated. But a few little trivial fixes does help them.

Hi Brianey i was reading your thread and was wondering how this ruger was comming along. i am a ruger fan. mabe i shouldnt have posted that. no really i do like them and have had some that just will not shoot and have some that will shoot great. right now i have one that was ran over and broke in half ( the stock )and was thinking about having it redone. but didnt know what route i was gona go yet. i would love to see some new pics especially some target pics if possible thanks for your time and info

I am just finishing up the truing of the receiver and the bolt. When I get this done I will post all pictures of the build. I ordered a blank barrel from Shilen (.750) at the muzzle and have made my own bipod, monopod, firing pin, and scope base (25 MOA) and scope rings out if Titanium. The rings I made are (3/4 width) and 1.250 to center of rings. I am putting a Swarovski 5x25x52mm scope on a h-s precision stock. the bipod and monopod will be an accu-shot. I will get plenty of pictures for you, and the only bad thing about tricking out a Ruger is the availability of fixtures and tooling.
