So, how many coyotes is the most you've called at one time? How about one stand? And, how many did you kill?

My son, Ben, and his cousin had seven come at the same time last Fall and killed two of them. I've had four show on one stand taking three of them. (They showed up one at a time--a little more my speed. ;) ) What's the most you've called/killed?

Having seven yotes running in would be a site to see.
The most I have ever called in during one sit was four and shot three. It happend during a late October morning hunt. Took one series off Randy Anderson's "cat-nip" and they came running down a hedge row. Dropped the first one at thirty yards, the second one just kept coming as if nothing was wrong so I swung over and folded him. The thirt one stopped after I barked at him around 350 and I ended up dropping him too. Later that morning I shot another single. Besides that I have actully shot one other triple and a double. My buddies say I have more hunting luck than all of them put together lol... Id like to think that its mostly skill.

Best I have ever done was at Fort Irwin when we opened the season on them for the first time in 97'

They had never been hunted before and had zero fear of humans. Seems one of them ate the Commanding General's wifes dog and he could not go home until he opened the season that Sat!

Two of us killed 23 on Saturday. We had so many running in on us each time it was hard to count. I think we killed 5 or 6 at one set

Shotguns close and then pick up the rifles.

We had to bag them and leave them at environmental office. We had a pickup load and they ended up with 2 dump truck loads on Monday morning.

No more bagging and bringing in after that!:D

They smartened up real fast too.

I had 6 come running into a pup distress tape on the old Johnny Stewart
many years ago. Sad thing is I got so flustered the one I shot at I missed.
I've had four several times but usually I only get one down. I am not
much of a speed shooter, I think of myself as a deliberate shot.
If we need to hurry some one else better shoot.gun)

Most on one stand; We called in 5 and got 4 of them. We saw 7 coyotes on that stand. Two were way out in the distance and never came in.

I once saw 15 running together at once. I saw them from the pickup/road. I got out and got one shot one coyote. The rest high tailed it over the ridge before I could get another shot.

I have never had more than three come in on one stand. (that I know of)

Most killed= 2

Not a skilled "speed shooter" yet, but working on it.

I feel your pain.

SBruce: Four out of five coming all at once is a pretty good feat! That's some impressive shooting. Maybe you should hold a coyote shooting seminar for us mere mortals! How did it play out?

Well, as much as I'd like to say that I shot all of them on the run before they got away, nothing could be further from the truth.

My son and I were calling overlooking a den pocket in late summer. We happen to call in the adult female and 4 youngsters. My son had a Marlin single shot 22 LR so he took the first shot at the closest one, as soon as he fired his shot, I shot the female. That's 2 down and 2 on the run.

I got on the coyote distress and we both jacked in another round. These young coyotes probably hadn't even heard a gunshot before, at least not up close. Believe it or not, the yote distress brought the other two running in at us again. This time it was from my side, so I shot the closest one while it was running strait at me (about 30 yds). The remaining survivor ran off again.

I gave a lone howl and followed with a pup distress. The last one came charging at us again. I barked until he stopped, and dropped that one too.

Some would call this "calling in 7 on one stand", but I really feel that there were only 5 coyotes there. Reasoning; we saw one lone coyote running away after all the shooting had stopped. So we had 4 down and 1 got away.

We continued to call, and saw two other coyotes way out there, they were looking but not coming. They'd heard enough shooting for one day I am sure. :)

I've called in 4 on a stand quite a few times over the years, but I don't think I've ever got 4 out of 4. I've got 3 out of 4 a few times, and 3 out of 3 a few times, and 2 out of 3 many times, but I can't remember ever getting 4/4.

I won't say that I always shoot the closest one first, nor always shoot the smallest one first, nor always shoot the furthest one first. Truth is, I shoot whichever one I feel most assured of a "Drop Dead Right There" effect, or which ever one I feel I've got a 100% chance of a good hit.

I rarely ever use the coyote distress for calling. I save that for the multiples, and stopping the runners. Sometimes, even adult coyotes can be called back in (after shooting) with the yote distress sound, I haven't seen that real often, maybe only 1/2 dozen times, but I have seen it. That's why I prefer to save the best for last.

i took a buddy out for his first time close to home, called seven in at the same time, all i remember was the sound of their feet it happened so fast , i shot 4 times killing three and my buddy was just staring with his mouth open and never fired his gun, he said dang your like John Wayne with that thing, i laughed and said no John Wayne would have shot them all, it is one of my most remembered stands. other one at a times, most has been 3 but i never get them all

I killed 4 coyotes with my shotgun at one stand. The first two were a double that came in together, then later on that stand I killed two singles that came in about 5 minutes apart. I was laying down with a camo pillow about 15 yards from my caller, my cousin was laying prone with a rifle about 50 yards behind me and he never fired a shot.

One time many years ago I was walking out to make the last stand of the day just before it got dark. I had two groups of coyotes howling at each other as I was setting up my stand and I was between the two groups. Within a few minutes after I started my caller 5 coyotes ran in from my left and all I had was my rifle. As I was trying to get on one of the 5 coyotes 2 more coyotes ran right up in front of me from my right and they stopped and looked at the other 5 coyotes. I shot one of the two that stopped and that was the only one I got out of the 7 that came in.
