Mean my buddy went out a few days ago after some song dogs. this female showed up at exactly 450yds. The 22-250 sent the 45gr JHP right into her upper back abdomen area just in front of the hind quarter. A finishing shot was needed. It is his longest kill to date.

"Nice shot?" You have to be kidding me? Great explaination for a new term of "gut shooting" an animal. This is why I do not support this site. Long range shooting should be reserved for metal targets. Many of the people doing this need to gain some hunting ethics.

Maybe You should not come on this site if shooting a coyote in the guts offends you! I personally would take a gut shot coyote with 22-250 at 450 anyday good shooting.

Double L, who are you to decide what is and isn't ethical? Maybe a 400+ yd shot sounds unethical to you but to me and quite a few others on this forum it is a very doable shot. I have enough confidence in my self and my equipment that on a calmer day I would not hesitate to shoot one at 600. Tracker, congrats to your friend on his furthest coyote.

Come on now! If you have never gut shot an animal you havent been hunting long enough. It does happen to the best of us. It can happen at 50 yards with coyotes. Most of the time your heart is pounding and they arent the biggest animal. And try shooting one just perfect when they are trying to run you over! I dont like to see an animal suffer, but its part of hunting. If you cant accept it you shouldnt be out there. My 2cents.

Great shooting by the way:D

I've been hunting since I was 12 yrs old and am now 55 years old. I have taken deer and elk well over 400+ yards but I only take the shot when I know all the factors are in my favor for a good, clean, well placed shot. Yes, I have passed up shots when the animal is moving or not standing with the perfect profile for bullet placement but these are just my ethical standards. Obviously not everyone has the same standards. Certainly accidents happen and animals get gut shot, but many times they would not have if a hunter passed on the shot in the first place based on ethical reasoning that it was a poor shot to take in the first place. I am not saying the shooter here should not have taken the shot, but if a shooter is too excited to shoot and has the "fever" then put the gun on safety and call that one good for the time being. It is all part of hunting. Sorry folks, no way I call gut shooting any animal at any distance a good shot...it is just a gut shot!

Hello Double L Ranch Well its taken me awhile for me to calm down after you refer this to "gut shooting"an animal. I:am a shooter who spends countless hours at a target range and reloading bench. I do not shoot coyotes or any other big game, my target at any distance is the HEART. You are choking my chicken refering this to "gut shooting".

And, why are you on this site? You might read the Purpose and TOS of LRH before posting again. Just a thought.

nice shootin i might not of hit it but i sure would be slingin lead at it.

Good shot!!!
You got it, thats what counts.
Dont pay attention to the supposed perfects who never miss or who have never hit an animal where they werent aiming. They are like race drivers who says they have never been in a car crash, or lawyers that say have never lost a trial, or doctors that have never had a complication(dont happen).
Good job on that yote, I would have taken that shot also!!!
