338 edge savage finished

I have been working on this for a while trying to pick some pieces here and there. I robbed the stock off of my short action 300wsm and re inlet-ed, installed a new front pillar, then bedded and re painted it. I used a older savage flat back, small shank, RUM action. I installed a target accutrigger and tuned it to just under 1 lb. And in stalled a carbon fiber tension barrel. I finally got to shoot it last week and am very happy with the results (Under .5 moa with all loads tried some well under .5) all loaded at 3.775 coal for the mag box with 300 smks. I have worked it up to 93gr of retumbo with no pressure sings yet.
Over all weight is 10.5lb with scope and sling no bi-pod. Recoil is really pleasant with no muzzle rise just straight back.

The black you see on the stock is actually the woven carbon fiber showing through a clear coat. You cant really see it in the pic

That is a beautiful rifle. Can you give me a little more info on the carbon fiber tube? And the carbon fiber showing through the camo really sets it off. Absolutely beautiful rifle, if it was left handed i would be making you an offer.

How do you like the Stockade bottom metal, fit/finish, how do the mags fit? I need to buy bottom metal and have been trying to decide between Stockade and CDI. I haven't been able to find much info on the Stockade DBM so any info would be appreciated.

I like the stockade a lot. I think if I was going to choose one for a short action and a standard size and shape stock I would go with a CDI as the finish is a bit better. However he built this one for the mag I sent him (he had not built one this big before). It is very tunable and has a lot of adjustment for depth of the mag. I do not think any other bottom metal would have worked for this particular build (not any I have seen anyhow). It came in raw aluminum. The cdi is anodized and looks a bit cleaner. I would buy another one for these if I was building an edge or lapua.

Very nicely done all around. I'm still a little torn about the barrel... I take it light weight was more of a driving factor than heat dissipation? How did you manage a 1.25" dia. barrel and still have a barrel nut on there, or was the nut custom built as well?

Ha. did'nt know you were on here. The barrel its self is just a small shank, then the carbon tube goes over that and butts up against the barrel nut that has been modified to have a flat front. Then the brake is modified with a step on it. When the brake is tensioned it in affect stretches the barrel and adds stiffness. Stiffness per the weight is the driving factor. In my experience tensioned barrels are less finicky from load to load and take much less load development than a standard barrel of the same weight. I am not saying someone cant get the same accuracy without the tension tube (obviously). I have just found them to perform like a heavy barrel without all the weight of one. Heat dissipation is not as much of a concern to me as the stiffness is retained even while hot. The only problem heat would bring is you still get throat erosion, but not any worse than a normal steel barrel. Oh and I probably do not quite get them a hot as you do.

If it is a ABS WRAP , they claim 375% faster dissipate heat, more stiffness and less vibration on their technique of wrapping, they us thicker liners and only cut rifle barrels now

It is not an abs. I use a different type of fiber. The fiber that ABS barrels use are not near as stiff and contract with heat which will not work with this design. The fibers I used are about 10 x stiffer than steel per weight and are almost inert (they do not expand and contract with heat). They are two very diferent designs, and both work for different reasons.
