Need a Little Help With a CZ 550 FS

Rifle looks like it wants to shoot really well. First load I tried - 45.5 IMR 4350 with a 120 Nosler Ballistic Tip looks pretty good - three 3 shot groups averaged .763", the largest being .772, smallest .720". It is very consistent. The first 2 shots touching each time with the third one a 1/2" or so out to the right. The barrel channel may need to be relieved a bit on the left side. Anyone have any ideas? Change of primer? Fiddle with the load?

How about a little more information. What caliber is it? Brass, primer type, factory chamber? What is your test range? Whats your time between shots?

That is what I get for typing and watching TV at the same time. I just cut and pasted some info that I had posted in another forum where this info had already been earlier posted.

Oh cool this intrest me alot I have the new CZ cataloge right in front of me was thinking about getting that same rifle and caliber.

How long between shots Dan? If your barrel is getting to hot it may be throwing your last shot. Try a 6 round group at 200 yards and let the barrel cool down between shots.

Absolutely cold barrel between groups. For the first and second groups, the first 2 shots of each group were .053" and .185" respectively and best of all, if you superimposed the aiming point for each, the 4 shots would have been one hole. I can live with that, after all it is a hunting rifle that will very likely never be used on game for more than 2 shots.

Now the bad news - the third 3 shot group looked very much like the first two, but it had shifted. The first two shots measured .190" center to center, but they were .9" high and 1.1" right of the first two groups. That was disconcerting.

I can already tell that this thing is going to make me nuts. If I limit it to 200 yards and under on dry days, it should be a killer.

How often are you cleaning. If it's not a heating issue and you're handloading for it, it may be a fouling issue. I've got a couple rifles that'll shoot a flier or two (the fliers often seem to hit at the same area in relation to the main group) until they've had a few shots down the tube. Once you get a bit of crud built up they shoot the same hole for the next few rounds.

If it shoots cold bore that well, I'd just shoot it the way it is. That's more than tight enough to shoot 200-300yds.

What type of rest are you using? Are you right handed?
