Well guys, its been a while since my last wildcat was released and to be honest, have just been working my rear off trying to catch up a bit. We have made good progress but still alot of orders to get out the door.
Still, I decided to move on a couple new wildcats from my shop. These will not be for everyone, infact, these are mainly for my entertainment but some of you may find interest with them.
The first will be called the 510 Maximus.
This wildcat has been on my mind since the 510 Allen Magnum was designed and released. Basically, its very similiar to the 510 AM other then the neck is shortened from roughly 0.620" down to 0.375". This however is not done by trimming the neck, instead by lengthing the case body. Yep, thats right, a DRAMATICALLY longer body. The 50 BMG has a very long neck, some say that is good, for a single shot its really all but useless. I decided to increase the length of the case body which should add at least 25 grains of useful powder charge capacity to the 510 Allen Magnum or roughly another 10%. Should easily add up to 100-125 fps over the 510 AM performance which right now is basically 3000 fps with 750 fps.
This weekend I set down and finalized the reamer specs I wanted and sent them off for production with JGS. Other then the longer case body, I also increased the body taper to around 11 thou per inch so that with high pressure loads, it will extract even better then the older 510 AM design which already extracts pretty darn well with upper pressure loads.
The other wildcat, is basically a 510 Allen Magnum necked down to 458 caliber and neck shortened to 0.375". Case body taper is also increased to 12 thou per inch of case body to allow maximum pressures to be used and still have good extraction. The 510 Maximus is simply a test in shear hammer power. The 458, if it produces what we are expecting it to, will take things to the next level even over the likes of the 338 AM and anything else for that matter. Lehigh bullets has made me some prototype 550 gr 458 solids which are predicted to have a BC in the .9 range. The computer models are predicting up to 3500 fps and possibly slightly more depending on barrel length with this new wasp-waisted hybrid borerider bullet design. They tell me the alloy this bullet is made with will hold the lands at +3500 fps.
IF we get this, we will only need 13.75 moa to dial up to 1000 yards from a 100 yard zero. That would compare to 20.0 moa for the 510 Allen Magnum and 24.5 moa for a top end 50 BMG match load all using the 750 gr A-Max.
In the smaller extreme ballistic performance wildcats, my 7mm AM with 200 gr ULD loaded to 3300 fps needs 16.0 moa. Which is exactly the same for the best 300 gr SMK loads in the 338 Allen Magnum.
Rocky Mountain bullets has also shown interest in possibly making an aluminum tipped lead core bullet in the 550 gr range that would also offer a BC in the .9 range.
Again, these are not going to be big sellers. These are just two wildcats that I have wanted to do for a while now and figured I better get on it. Much more to come late this summer. Anyone with a 50 BMG single shot that has a conventional barrel to receiver fit could easily rebarrel to either of these to wildcats. Will keep all of you posted.
