Hello all, I know there are a few of you out there that are doing some distance shooting here in the 49th state. I live in Anchorage and was hoping to find somebody who has figured out a way to do some distance shooting within an hour or twos drive of Anchorage. I would enjoy any suggestion any of you may have.

" an hour or twos drive from Anchorage"

That pretty much covers that whole state, doesn't it???? :D About the size of Iowa???

The biggest question I have is do you have an atv? I live in Fairbanks right now but spent a few years down in Wasilla. The best place I found is up in Hatchers pass from the Willow side but you will want an atv.

You can take the upper trail that leads to purchase creek but instead of dropping down into the valley stay up high and make your way east along the ridgeline. That will get you away from recreational offroaders, hunters, and you will still be far away from the Hatchers pass berry pickers. You can shoot as far as you want with some safe hills in the background. I haven't been up there in three years but I doubt much has changed. In the fall you will see a ton of moose hunters with sad faces. They just aren't hunting it correctly.:) Last time I was up there I saw three legal moose and four small brown bears. I pulled a 62" moose out of there a couple years before that. If the sun is out you can bring the small guns and take care of the parka squirrels. Let me know if you need more details.

You can find some places. If you have access to it, I'm pretty sure they've pushed the Sport Fire range over on Ft. Rich out to 1,000 yards and have plans to push it out to 1,200 soon.

Good luck

Hi Akhunter, partisan1911 is right on the money I'd say. I'm in the area, maybe could show you a place or two sometime.

Thanks guys for the tips. I don't have an atv but do have access to fort rich. Last I heard though you can't take a guest on the base. It would be nice to take someone along at times. Any other good suggestions keep them coming. I know there have to be a few guys down on the peninsula shooting.
