Need Long Range Scope Advice <$1k

I know things change so frequently in the optics world I thought a new request for info would be appropriate.

I am looking for a long range (1000) capable scope to mount on a .243 AI rifle.
I am wanting to spend under $1000, way under if possible, but understand you get what you pay for to a degree. Without going all the way to a NF or Mark 4 what do you all suggest? lightbulb

Without a doubt Sightron SIII
As of right now I won't use anything else..glass is great they track great and they look good.

JUDD, which Sightron scope and reticle would you specifically go for? I heard that some dont have the MOA adjustments to get to 1000. I have a line on a 6-24x SIII with mildot but wondering if it is the right one to get.

I use the 8-32x56 SIII. It got to to 1K with a 6-284, a 338 lapua, 7mm dakota, 6.5- 284, 338-408 cheytac.

It has 70 MOA adjustment in a 30MM tube. Get a 20-30 MOA base and you will have more then enough.

heres the one i use. goin on two years of abuse from a 300 wm still workin like new!

Well, I am going to give you my 2cents. I mean no disrespect to anyone before me just what I have learned from my personal experience. I had a sightron for 2 seasons on my elk gun and couldn't give it away fast enough. I have always been a Leupold lover, just thought I would try the sightron. Never again. I now shoot the Huskemaw scope and as I can afford it, the Huskemaw brand will reside on all my bullet launchers. I know they are $1149, a bit over your budget, but well worth the price. They are designed and built specifically for long range hunting and come with a custom turret. NICE GLASS! Good warranty,good people. Like I said, just my 2cents!

To be perfectly honest with you I don't remember which model it was. It was a 4x16. The lack of eye releif was one real bad thing, and the scope was never crystal clear like my old leupold or my new Huskemaws. It never fogged up,but that is about all the good I can say for it. Hope that helps.

There are dozens of scope reviews out on the web that will place a Sightron SII bigSky or SIII on par or higher then a VX3. I for one would have to agree. Leupolds are a GREAT scope but do not warrant their current price tag.

And with respect, all those reviews are hogwash and prepaid marketing campaigns for Sightron. They aren't even close to a VX-III, much less a VX-3. Sightron are not as clear, not as bright, low light shooting is a nightmare and I loath the eye-relief as well. On top of that, the don't hold their resale value at all, even by optics standards. I wouldn't own one at all. You get what you pay for with them. If you were to compare them, I would say they are about on line with a Nikkon Monarch, if that is the case, go with the Monarch. To me a VX-3 is worth EVERY penny though and you can get a 6.5-20x40 for under 1K.

Now the Millet on the other hand is a great scope for the money. Not on par with a Leupold by any means, but solid scope for sure.

I think this one would fit your needs best. Their tactical scopes are good too. You do get what you pay for most of the time when it comes to glass though. I am a firm believer in that. Now what you pay for and what you need are two different things.

I haven't seen an SIII out of a shop. I owned an SII. I will stick with VX-3s. You get what you pay for. I know everyone thinks Sightrons are some great value, but I just don't agree. Is it better than the MIllet, oh yeah. But if you want the best value scope out there, go that route.
