Ok i am wanting a 30-378 in a remington action and gun but of course we all know that isn't offered. To top things off i am left handed also. What would i need to do to get what i want. Can i go buy a Rem 300 ultra or something like that and rebarrel it for the weatherby? Would the factory action be able to be modified for the 30-378. Thanks for your help. I am a newbie to building guns and been reloading for about a year now.

I believe the 378 wby has at least as large a rim diameter as the lapua, if not bigger. building a case that size on a remington action, not a good idea. The lapua is already on the edge, and you have to make sure not to load hot rod rounds in it. You will need a bigger action, such as a stiller 338 or 408 action. They will not be much more expensive than a trued up remington action all things considered.
Also, 378 brass is hugely expensive and pretty soft, i don't think you'd be giving up much by going to a 300 rum, 338 edge, or 338 lapua. If your set on 30 cal, go with a 30-338 lapua, or 30-338 lapua imp.

Google stiller precision firearms and look at their site, it's pretty well laid out. The predator series is a economic single shot series. The tac series is similar with a larger bolt handle, black coating and a few other changes. I would stay there. They also make an an action called the diamondback which is a predator with tighter tolerances on the bolt to reciever (a BR action), single shot, all stainless steel. I like it. These are also all rem m700 LA footprint so they'll fit in all the normal stocks.
I would start there.
However on the caliber, depending how experienced you are, if your still rather new to building LR rigs etc, I would go with a more straightforward caliber. Such as the 338 edge (basicly a 338 lapua that works in a rem 700, and all with cheaper brass) or 338 lapua, or 300 rum. However these aren't practice guns as they are expensive to shoot and the barrels won't last forever. The time to build "something different" is once you've done this a time or two and know the ropes.

First, figure out what your desired case base diameter is, then find out which other cartridges use the same size base.
Keep the search in the realm of cartridges which have similar max CUP per SAAMI.
Finding left hand actions isn't too difficult, but finding them in the heavier cartridges can be challenging, and definitely more costly.
Once you determine which cartridges are compatible, you can select an action that will work for your application.
Then, you can find a barrel, and have it reamed for your application.
I Strongly recommend that you find a competent and experienced gunsmith for that process, as it's really easy to screw up and get the headspace wrong, which can be catastrophic.
Once you've got your barreled action all set up, buy/make yourself a stock to fit your action and style of shooting.
Ultimately, you'll have (theoretically) a rifle ideally suited to you and your applications.
I'd also find a couple talented gunsmiths to discuss your ideas with, especially the older, more knowledgeable and experienced in such things.
It's a challenging road you're looking to head down, but once that's been done before. It's not impossible, but understand in advance that your quest can be accomplished, but the real question is, can you pay for it?

Doesn't Weatherby make a LH 30-378 factory rifle?
ok on a different note. What would i need to do to make this happen. Say i wanted just the plain old 257 Weatherby Mag in a left hand remington rifle. What would i need to make that happen. Would i buy a donor rifle and have it rebarelled to 257 or what.
The Stiller action talked about wont be to much of a cost differance than a doner rifle unless you already have one you can use.
I built a custom on a 700 rem action I used a brand new 7mm ultra mag got it for a little over $500.00 I didnt want to wait the extra time to get a stiller shipped.
I still have a brand new 7mm ulta barrel factory rem & a new lh BDL stock
if I could find a cheep rem action I would put the barrel on it and sell it. then start building my next semi custom.
