I recently bought a Millett LRS-1 with 140 MOA range. I have contacted a company about getting a more than 25 MOA base made. They asked me how much bigger, and I honestly didn't know. The scope will be on a .22LR that will be used as a trainer. I want to zero at 50 yards, and go out as far as I can. How much base do I ask for in relation to the overall adjustments of the scope?

You will need in the neighborhood of 50 MOA to get to 300 yards. The load you choose will vary that, but it will get you in the vicinity.

In theory, if your scope was centered in its adjustment range when zeroed with level mounts, you would have 70MOA available to go "up". In reality, you never know for sure until you mount it, zero it, and then check the available travel.

A slightly inconsistent receiver, bases, mounts, or a scope that is far to the left or right in its adjustment range can all steal available adjustment.

that is where the question lies. I know how much I need to get out to the distances, but how much base do I stick on the rifle to make use of the 140 MOA that I have now. 1/2 of 140 MOA, 1/3, 1/4?

I prefer my scope to be "centered" for the normal distances I will be shooting. You
have full windage adjustment when you are in the center of the vertical adjustment.
It's always a trade off as we shoot at varying distances and there really is no normal.
With 70 up and 70 down I would go with a 40 based on your 300 yard requirement
to stretch the 22's capabilities.

Loner, DIP said they have a run going through soon, and it would only be another few dollars for more slant. Hoping to sight in at 100, and take it out as far as I can at the BOTW range in Liberty Hill. Was thinking 40-50 MOA because I plan on mostly using subsonics.

i dont think there is any way to know for certain what cant will allow you to use all your elecation and still get a 50yd zero. the only way i know of to do it is mount ?moa base and see what happens.

have you seen how far out a 0moa base will get you?
