Shake up at "Best of The West"

Once again it appears major changes are under way at The Best of The West. I just read on Gunwerks website Aaron and Mike Davidson are leaving the show to concentrate on their products lines. It's probably old news since now I realize not having seen them on the show in a few episodes.

It's a nice break from the standard whitetails and turkeys and I never tire of seeing the Wyoming landscape.

Long Range Shooters,

Since founding Gunwerks, and laying the groundwork for Huskemaw Optics in 2006, I've worked hard to develop unique LR products that work. Usually just incremental changes, but we made a good start. I also worked very hard to influence much of the long range shooting content at The Best of the West. Now with our new GSeven line of products we will focus in on "the first shot". As of February of this year, I no longer own any part of Best of the West or Huskemaw Optics. Huskemaw Optics will continue to support BDC turrets by licensing Gunwerks' technology.

First off,in the GSeven product line, is the G7 configuration of the Nightforce NXS. One thing I have learned over the years (and several hundred rifles), is that when it comes to rifle scopes, there's pretty good most of the time, and then there is 100% "Built for the First Shot". That's what the new G7 scope (built by Nightforce) offers. The new hand held ballistic program with G7 BC's, Multiple Winds, Trajectory Validation, and Shoot to Range, has been in the works for a few years, in fact the core algorithms are part of our rangefinder project (production as early as October) that allows BC, MV and other inputs to fully tailor the ballistic calculations (read: full ballistic solution). It is also used in our new online program at ballistics.gseven.com. Finally, we will be offering custom BDC turrets that feature BOTH MOA/click divisions AND custom BDC for hasty and deliberate shooting.

Gunwerks has also introduced several new models in its LR series, from Carbon barreled sheep hunters to a 500 yard muzzle loader. The new LR-1200 is geared specifically towards the LRH crowd. At Gunwerks, we don't just build the most complete long range hunting rifles, we also rework customer actions as a platform. Pricing on budget packages is competitive with anyone, but remember with our LR packages we supply the entire system from ammo to optics and all the break-in, validation, setup, and testing work associated with a tuned long range system. Gunwerks even offers two day long range shooting courses through out the year.

We do have a new TV Show coming, as well. Gunwerks will be the title sponsor for Long Range Pursuit. The first show airs in January on Sportsman Channel on Thursday and Friday nights. More shooting, and less goofing. Long Range Shooting is a serious pursuit.

Gunwerks: So what your saying is the scope you have been promoting for the last few years is now second best? WTH! I have a huskemaw scope and am a little more that disgruntled at the fact that you guys promoted this scope as the end all be all and now you are jumping ship and heading another direction. To me that is a travesty. Thanks for getting us to spend over 1300 bucks for a scope that is maybe not what all the hype was. Thanks for letting us down. I know i will not purchase another huskemaw, and i will not purchase a G7, it will be a nightforce from the parent company, not one built to your specs and will put money in your pocket. Anyone else feel a bit betrayed or is it just me?

Don't think there will ever be the "ONE SCOPE' to end all scopes.

It would need to cover everything from 1.1x-75x have a 50mm tube and maybe something around 100mm front end to let 300% light in. No turrets of any kind will be on the tube because it would automatically adjust power settings for the user, and at the same time move point of impact with a built in rangefinder. And all of this or a price along the lines of a 3-9x40mm Tasco....





WTH Coyboy.....they made improvements to their trucks. That stinks, now I hate my truck!

Instead of getting all bent out of shape about newer technology, why not take the high road? I'm sure your Huskemaw scope is plenty good enough to still take advantage of the new G7 rangefinder. You could simply buy the rangefinder to get the most accurate range and dial it in on your current setup, couldn't you?

Unless I'm not understanding what the G7 rangefinder does, which could be, you wouldn't have to buy the new scope. I was planning on buying the rangefinder and using it with my Mark IVs, instead of replacing them. It will be way better than guessing at the variables that will be handled by the new technology.

I see where CCC is coming from, but not where he is going!

The man just got cought up in the Huskemaw hype, and he was probably quoting Gunwerks phrases to his buddy's when showing off his scope because he thought he had the best scope there was, only because the Gunwerks guys said so. And now that the scope is no longer good enough for Gunwerks, well, his argument is pretty much screwed!

I wish Aaron and his team good luck, but like I said, I see where CCC is coming from...

Might take some heat for this..BUT, I can see where this guy is coming from. Being in sales all of my professional career, you lose credibility if you are selling one product telling everyone this is the only way of doing it, this is the best period and then you start working for a competitor.

Yes, I have been in this situation and declined new opportunities to save integrity, if you whore yourself out, that is what your customers will think of you. Like it or not. Perception is Reality!

I do think the new system he is selling is a "better" system, but I have to take it with a grain of salt coming from a guy that was very good at selling the other system. Do I fault a guy for moving his career forward, no, but you have to face up to the public opinion.
For those that know him personally and will follow him where ever he goes, great, but for those that only have what he has said to go on, it may be a tough pill to swallow, that a sales guy might not have been honest with them.
The life of a sales guy, Damned if you do and Damned if you don't. I wish the new venture well and I will keep shooting my Nightforce!
