I have been hunting all my life (61) years and just been introduced to L.R. Hunting this year. I am from Mississippi where a long shot for deer is usually about 150 yards. I am partner in camp in North east Montana where we have been hunting for about 10 years but limited to birds (ducks, pheasant and sharptails). Last year attempted to get buck tag from lottery but unsuccessful, so some of the group and I purchased some doe tags. Long story short, got a couple of muleys and whitetails. This year put in for deer buck tags and antelope buck tag. Missed the deer tag but got the antelope buck tag. Got with my friend and neighbor (was on Olympic shooting team) and he agreed to assist me. After about 4 unsuccesful stalks, finally found some way out. Stalk of 1/2 mile and crawled about 50 yards, we were in position. I was using his 7mm WST which he build. He adjusted the dial on the scope and told me to hold right on where I wanted it to hit. Dropped him in his tracks, after the shot he told me it 490 yards. I AM HOOKED Took muley does at 216 yard and 265 yards with my 25-06. Now I am really hooked... purchased a Remington 300 Ultra Mag with my friend is going to set up for me. Maybe I can get a deer buck tag next year.

Welcome, this is a good place to hang out, everyone is easy going and some of the best advice can be found here with out getting piled on for wanting to learn to shoot long range!!!
Did you tell your friend that was a dirty trick to play on you, I pulled a similar thing on one of my buddies also :D his wife ain't to impressed with me but she'll get over it!
Make sure your getting your preference points for MT!

Saw some of your posts on antlope hunting...impressive. We only get to go to to the camp once a year for 2 weeks. 36 hour drive from home. Looking forward to next year. What part of Montana you from, we are near Malta.

I'm down around the Dillon area. You should check out some of Broz antelope videos, he puts the Lapua on them!!! Again welcome!

I think I got it correct, my friend was on the Olympic shooting team years past. He and his entire family are big into shooting and reloading. He told me it was a 7mm Western Shooting Times. They have to reload the bullets as they cannot be purchased. He and his dad are currently setting up a Remington 300 Ultra mag for me. Great people.
