Well after hunting a total of 18 days with no luck, on the last day of Eastern
Washington's late buck season my son (4 almost 5) and I headed out after his
teacher parent conference for a evening hunt. I had a doe tag and a buck tag
that were good for North Spokane.

It had snowed the day before, and that night about two inches. We unloaded
the four wheeler and headed back to the spot where I had shot a nice buck two years ago. We parked and walked in. On our way in we heard two gun shots on the road above. We sat a while waiting to see if any thing would come down the hill but nothing did, so we went back to the four weeler. My son told me to ride around to the other side of the canyon we had been waching so I did. We stopped and shut the quad off.

We had only been sitting there for a minute when I saw a deer working its way up the canyon towards us on the opposite side I quickly got off and loaded a round in my gun and set my shooting sticks up for a shot. I couldn't get lined up on it before it went into some trees, we sat there for a minute waiting for it to come out the other side. I started to hear some branches breaking and then out of the trees he came I could see it was a buck with my naked eye from 220yards away.

I setteld the shaky cross hairs on him and fired. The shot looked low as I
chambered another round and settled in for another shot, feeling much steadier I fired my DE braked Rem. 700 chamberd in .257 Weatherby with a bedded Gray Bull Persison stock and a Sightron SIII scope the gun barked craping a 115gr Berger Hunting VLD out at 3300fps. The buck didn't make it more than step before crash landing ten feet down the hill.

It was all over me and the my son high fived with smiles ear to ear then headed off to harvest this nice buck.

I was realy hoping to extend my range this year but i cant complane this was a hunt me and my son won't forgit.

P.S. will have a bullet review later tonight.

Right on, cool to share with your son!! It's kinda funny how a guy works on extending his range and everything starts showing up and walking all over you!

Looking forward to the bullet report, I've been thinking about the 115VLD for a 250AI.gun)

Great write-up, great pics, better memories for you and your son.

Looks as though the bullet performed well. The two deer I have killed with the rifle this year were taken with 6.5mm 140grain VLD at 3019fps in a 260rem. Bullet performance was devastating.

Hole going in.

Well I am vary happy with the results of this bullet the heart and lungs were turned to soup as you can imagine from the 1.75 inch hole coming in.

May need to hit bone at longer ranges.

thanks for looking.

I agree. The two deer that I shot with VLDs, the bullet did not strike bone on the way in. The bullet did expand in the vitals and left a 1.5" exit hole though. If that bullet touches bone on the way in though, it would almost certainly explode in the interior.
