I'm thinking about getting a .308 and was wondering what scope manufacturer and what magnification level? I will be shooting up to about 1000 yards. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For longer ranges, can't go wrong with a Nightforce scope, but I think the 5.5-22 would do just fine for 1000 yards.

Yes, NF is "THE" scope for long-range-shooting/hunting

i was also take a look to the IOR-Valdada, or S&B ..... but .... to be sure to don't make mistakes .... NF 5,5-22 it's an awesome choice

The only problem is is that I'm a student so I have a budget do you have any other suggestions for a little bit cheaper scope?

Unfortunately it is about 1000 but I would prefer about 800 or so. I have 2500 so with about 1000 in the rifle that leaves me with 1500 for optics and relapsing equipment along with the other necessities.

If you check out the for sale section or Gunbrokers.com you will find one in your price range. You should be able to find a couple of Leupold 8-25x50 and 6.5-20x50 in the $1000.00 or less range. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, do you guys think 2500 is a reasonable budget for a complete rifle and reloading equipment?

I just bought myself a 308. I bought a bushnell tactical 6500 to put on it. I have a couple leo vx3's and mark 4's. I think this 6500 glass is as good as any of the leo's I have. Its not quite as good as my nightforce but then again its half the price. So far I am pleased with it.

I started reloading with a kit from walmart for like $250. Over the years i have found equipment, dies, etc. that i like better. It always seems to change every couple years with new and better equipment coming out. I would say start out with good equipment you can afford and work your way into it.

There is no budget it never ends.

I have several of the 6500 4-30 scopes. I love them. you can buy them several places less thaan $700 shipped. Check gun broker.

I love my Zeiss Conquest z1000 reticle scope for a 308. it is actually set up for 100 to 1000yds for 168-175gr bullets at 2650fps. Very clear and sharp and no
cranking required. There are several places to buy one at $900 or less shipped on gunbroker. I Have three of these also. love them on a 308!!!
Go Here http://www.accurateshooter.com/forum/index.php/topic,3754308.0.htmland you can see my 308 long range savage with a Zeiss on it. You can get scope and gun for $1775.

just my 2 cents
