went to the range/river today and got the followin groups top left is 84 grains and the lower right is 84.4 grains i shot the lower group 1st my problem is the 1st 3 shots were flyers 1 to the right and the 2 lower 1s now im puttin that down to a clean barrel/ fouling shots the next shot was on the corner of the grey box which was my bulls then the next 3 shots followed. if the 3 shot group/line is how my rifle shoots is this now deemed good enough to say yes 84.4 is my load and do some more fine tuning with seating depth?

thanks lucas

Groups?
If you understand that run-on description(and shooting) to the point of deciphering groups out of choke pattern, including barrel temp and fowling disqualifiers, then help the man out.
Good luck with it.

Personally, I think he should expend a speck of effort and seperate some of the chaos from the question at hand.
He might bring the barrel to temps and fully fouled, before cutting and presenting two seperate puzzles for us to solve.
He might describe each group seperately, along with conditions of the test(puzzle parameters).

You get all kinds of responses in forums. Some you like. Some you don't like.
Otherwise, they would be of no use at all.
You can consider my grievances and act on them to produce sound results,, OR NOT...
It's not personal.

You can't come to any realistic conclusions by shooting one group with a single load. I have shot many extremely small groups (once) without being able to reproduce the group the next time out.

If the 84.4 load looks good then I'd start with a clean rifle, shoot 3 foulers on a separate target to determine if they shoot outside of the main group. Then I'd try a 5 shot group on a fresh aiming point (gray box or other) and see what you get.
