Tikka T3 .270WSM LR hunting machine ideas

Im looking to turn this rifle into a longrange hunting machine. Ive searched around and see Manners makes a stock, but it seems to be more of a tactical style stock. Any ideas on more traditional longrange synthetic stock? Ill go with deadnutz scope mount. How about a good hunting scope less than $1000? Do you reccomend keeping stock barrel? What type of gunsmithing, bedding, etc...? Any advice is appreciated.

Manners stocks are the best! If your looking for a traditional style look at the MCST. Tactical stocks are great for long range hunting rifles but I think I know where your going with this.

Have the trigger tuned stock work done and shoot the barrel out. Heck you can even keep the old stock and just shoot the thing for awhile first.

Scopes under a grand that will work for the ranges you are limited to with a 270 winchester are abundent.

I have a tikka t3 in 300 wsm. I have been looking to rebarrel to a lower recoiling higher BC round and am looking at the 270 wsm and the 7 SAUM. I was set on the 7 till I saw what wildcat bullets are offering. A .277 cal 169.6 gr bullet with what I believe is a BC of .74. The only thing wildcat offers for the 7 is 200 gr which is too heavy to take advatage of using a 7 saum. So th numbers in the 270 wsm using these wildcats is amazing. The only thing better may be their 264 cals in 156 or 162 depending on the BC of these, which I cant find yet. Then maybe a 6.5 wsm maybe be coming. On to your question though. Manners really does have these best stock, there just isnt much available for the tikkas. You may be be able usethis steel bedding compound which would stiffen up your factory stock quite a bit I believe. For scopes I am stuck between the burris 4-16 in the black diamon or XTR model or the nikon 4-16 in the monarch or monarck x models. Ill try and attach some link for tikka stuff that I have collected.

The best stock question is subjective. There are several very good ones: McMillan, Manners, H-S Precision, Rimrock to name a few. As for the stock barrel, I'm not a fan of most factory barrels regardless of brand. I highly recommend you put a handlapped custom on it from the maker of your choosing. You will never settle the argument over which is better, cut or button rifled. My top choices are Obermeyer, Krieger, Hart, Bartlein, Broughton, and Lilja. If I had to pick only one it would most likely be Obermeyer because the fact is, Boots just does not make a bad barrel IMO.

As to gunsmithing, well, ultimately it boils down to word of mouth and trusting those who build record benchguns who state that they build their hunting rifles the same way. There are barrel makers who will also rebarrel your action for you and finish the rifle complete, such as Hart and Bartlien (at least I think Bartlien does).

Bedding is gunsmith preference. Most like to use Marine Tex gray. I like it and Pro Bed 2000. Other products work but these 2 are my preference.

Before settling on the 270WSM, you may want to ask around to see who has one and who is shooting the 169.5 wildcat in it. Take note of velocities achieved with this big bullet in the WSM case because you may be losing out on velocity, and ultimately that high BC isn't quite as attractive when you are "lobbing" it down range, if that is the case.

I have a 270 Allen Mag and I've never had time to finish playing with loads for it. I think it is an excellent round. I think an ideal case size to neck down to .277 would be the 338 RUM or the 7mm Dakota and try the wildcat bullet in that.

I would opt for a 7mm and not look back. Consider bullet availability too. You can build a 7WSM and shoot 180 Bergers or 168s, or an Amax and you will not be sorry. Just my opinion but I wouldn't get so hung up on BCs. I know a lot would disagree with me on that but lets face it, there are guys killing animals with 30 cal 180 Accubonds at 1000 yards every hunting season. You just need to know how to dope the wind and know what your rifle and load do and go enjoy your hunting season.

Pyroducks is right on with the scopes in the lower price range. Those are the exact two I use. Black diamond and Monarch 4-16's. Best glass for the money. The tikka 270 wsm has a magnum face long action in it. The tikka magnum action handles cartridges up to the 300 win mag length well. I would say the 7mm stw but it will not handle the super long magnums well unless it is a single shot. The 6.5-300 winchester would work well in it and be a flat shooter. Basically as a single shot you could do one of the ultramags in it. With the magazine anything based off the 300 win mag or shorter will feed. Take your pick. I killed an elk at over 1100 yards with a 270 wby and you are not far below that with the 270 wsm so with proper bullets what you have can be good. Good luck.

Put a good scope and mount on your Tikka. Adjust the trigger to 2lbs. Load some Norma brass with 150 grain Bergers and RL22 to 3175 fps and shoot it @1000. I bet it is capable of sub moa for 3 shots @1000 as it sits.

Tikka's have a well earned reputation for out of the box accuracy and the 270WSM cartridge has the same.

I recently added a Weatherby Vanguard in 270WSM to my stable. I have about 70 rounds through it so far and I think it may be the most accurate sporter weight hunting rifle I have owned. So far it has shot multiple groups in the .2's and one .1 group. At 1000yds it is a solid .7moa and with some more attention on my part I think it is capable of even better.

I did load development for a Sako A7 and Tikka in 270WSM. Both of them shot lights out right out of the gate. Great factory triggers and barrels on both.

Be forewarned, shooting long range is extremely addictive. Welcome!

I was planning on loading 150 bergers with RL-17. They say rL-17 is made for short mags. Do you disagree. How many grains should i work up from. Im also worried about bergers retaining there weight as a hunting bullet, i have heard stories of the bullets grenading.

Ammo: 140/150 gr berger hunting VLD or 140gr accubond. Rl-17/19/22?????. Wolf primers. Norma brass. Not sure how many grains to work up from.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wolf primers have worked the best for me. I know the RL17 will be your fastest load. I would be surprised if it wasn't.
