Just thought id introduce myself.

I'm a dedicated shooter with more then average amount of varmint and big game experience. I get to shoot almost weekly and I try and burn out a barrel on my .204 or .223 every other year..

This year will be my trial year for true long range big game hunting. I finally scraped enough money together to have a rifle built specifically for precision shooting at longer distances and it should be here any day.

I'm working with two experienced shooters as coaches and hope everything will come together in its basic form this month!

I look forward to learning from you guys!

Greetings from Great Falls! Welcome to LRH and enjoy ... it's always nice to have another MT member.

Looking forward for some pix of your new rig. What are the specs on the rifle?

Snowy MTN rifles out of Missoulia is building it off a sendero i had problems with. The rifle is chambered in .300 rum and throated for the 210 grain bullets. The barrel is a 27.5 tac/target countour lilja, the bottom metal is Seekens, had a jewel thrown in to anchor the mix. Night force rail and a Razor HD slapped across the top. Should be an awesome shooter, every test target i have been sent has been under 1/2 moa.

the rifle ships today so ill get pics and targets up as soon as it makes it to my side of the state.

I'm in townsend for work a few times a month ill definitely take you up on your offer broz.

Welcome, glad to have you here. Lots of good folks and lots of good info. Enjoy.

Broz any idea why they locked the lower gate so we cant drive in and repaint/hang paper past 200 yards?gun)

Yes, It is, and has been, against range rules for anyone to be past the 200 yard mark with out a range officer there to secure the line. It is fine to shoot the steel alone, you just can not go past the 200 yard mark. Too many dips and hollows on that road. The danger is, a new shooter arrives, and starts to shoot not knowing someone is down there. We recently installed the gate in an effort to enforce this rule. I am a range officer and have a key if you want me to come secure the line just give me a call.

Thanx anyways,Ill drive the extra distance to our ranch and drive to my targests, the gate isnt stopping anyone, everyone was driving to the gate and walking from there today. Now there isnt the obvious vehicle down range but people walking through those dips.Broz if you want to go out to my place where we can shoot 1-2000 from a single position some sunday before the seasons open let me know.

Yeah, You simply can not get some people to read simple rules, and if they do, then there will always be the ones that feel the rules are for everyone BUT them. The best we can do is to make our best attempt to keep as many as we can safe. We had a laminated sign on the gate too. But someone thought they should tear it off. We are working on a better stronger sign.

We have been working pretty hard to raise $$ and install the 3 new archery ranges. $18,000. in new targets alone... Thousands in dirt work, trails, out houses, parking lots ect.

At the last meeting I made a motion to add steel targets at 700 ~ 900 yards. I got the approval. But I will be installing them my self as soon as I get time. I have my own range here at home, to as far as I want to shoot. Targets to 1560 from my garage door. The reason I work with the club is to promote more shooting sports an I am trying to get the Long range thing going at some degree or another. I have enjoyed it and I now realize what it takes to keep the club going and maintained. The family membership for $40 or $45 is a very good value.

Thank you, for the offer Nonya, I would love to go shoot with you sometime. That would be a blast.

Also I appologize for the inconvience of with the 200 yard gate.

Probably the same ones that leave their trash behind themselves in the woods.

Yhe I repaint every time I shoot out there and I havnt been there once while there was a "range master" so I guess im done shooting there, there is a nice piece of BLM right off the flats where I can set up my steel targets and drive back,no solid bench's to shoot off though,I need to shoot prone anyways there arnt many steel benches in the hills gun):D

Welcome friend, gather up a log and set a spell. you are among family here you will find Canadians, Aussies and a bunch of Ridge runners and swampers.
We are all one.

The club has never released the range to "open" past the 200 yard mark with out a range officer. There is a list of the range officers that members can call and one of us will gladly make the trip out to unlock the 200 yard gate, and secure the line for any member. Just trying to keep it safe. The 300 plus targets are open to shoot at but no one is to be down past 200 yard burm with out a R.O. watching the firing line. I took the NRA R.O. course so I could help with this.

I have been there two saturdays a month from 6~8 hours for each on the designated LR shoots. http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f36/montana-long-range-get-together-shoot-57460/

Plus I have answered a few calls to open the long range up for members.

We are trying buddy... I think it is a great value for an annual family membership of $45

Hope to see you there sometime.

Jeff

Nobody I shoot with wants to use it anymore,at least 3 members that wont be renewing their membership. It used to be easy to show up and shoot, nobody wants to try to track down somone with a key to open the lower gate at any given day/time,oh well good things never last when people decide the existing rules that have been in place for years without any mishaps are no longer sufficient. We are all shooting over on the BLM now,we will be out there tomorow evening.gun)
BTW whats the logic in leaving the 0-200 yard ranges(where most people shoot) wide open so anyone can can walk wherever they want without a RO present, while beyond that(where most dont shootand where the longer ranges are not in line with the shorter ranges) you need an RO to go and hang a target?
