Imr 4831 sc

Want to try the 4831 sc but don't know difference between the two ( SC an Reg) as far as weight goes. Hopefully the same. Anyone loading a 260 with 130 grain bergers, I know your load an mine would not shoot the same but mabe get me in ballpark.
Love this site and thanks as Im a old man retired and need something to do an love shooting even tho I can't hit a 55 gal drum at 5o yds. Well not quite that bad.

The way I have it figured is that the burning rates are the same for both. I that's what is advertised, I think.

More ssc can be stuffed in the case than the regular.

I have used 4831 & the ssc version interchangeably and haven't seen any difference weight for weight. Same with 7828 & 7828ssc.

Just what Roy said, the only difference is the kernel size. You get a bit better packing density with the short cut powder and it meters a bit better too.

I just checked IMR's web site. They don't list a 4831 sc or ssc. IMR's designation is SSC for super short granulated powder. Hodgdon does make H-4831 SC. H-4831 and H-4831sc have the same burn rate, the sc is a short cut powder for better flow through powder measures. Hope that helps.

Hi Geno - WesB is correct, Hodgon is the one the makes the sc and the H4831 and H4831sc are identical in all aspects except kernel size. I have switched from H4831 to H4831sc in my 280 Rem and all my recipes stayed the same, it just meters better.

FYI, Berger has a ton of load data on hand as they are eventually going to put out a reloading manual for their bullets. If you email them which cartridge you are shooting the will email you back a spreedsheet with the load data they tested and their recommended loads. Good luck and enjoy retirement.

I am trying some 130 VLD Bergers in my 260 Remington. I have not gotten great groups yet so I am still playing with the powders and the seating depth. My gun loves 130 Accubonds and RL-19, so I am trying RL-19 and also RL-17.
