Put an angle cosine indicator on your rifle and simply multiply by the straight line value of your range finder.
Google "angle cosine indicator" and surf away.

Don't subtract yardage, multiply the drop for the yardage by the cosine of the angle.

eg a 10 degree shot. cos 10 = 0.984

if your drop is 13.5 MOA then the drop is 13.5 x 0.984 = 13.28 MOA

Multiplying the yardage will get you close, within .25 MOA. But you are CORRECT, multiplying the drop is the correct way to do it, easier too.

kiwi3006 and Dirtball are correct!

That's why turrets marked in yards are a spot of bother. They make for seemingly simple adjustments for angle but without the proper placement of the correction in the shooting equation the farther the shot the farther you'll be off.

Unless the range finder does the correct angle calculation and presents the result in the appropriate unit of distance.
