Well it's finally complete! This rifle is a Savage model 12 FVSS 270 WSM. I worked it over as I had time and money. First the plastic stock left and a B&C Medalist went on. Then I bedded it twice, kinda unsuccessfully. Then this spring I tore it all down, chipped out the Devcon and started over. I re-crowned the barrel and trued up the nut and action, installed a SSS recoil lug and set it up to minimum head space. Trigger is an Accutrigger that has been tweeked, and I got a super good stress free Devcon bed job and bedded the rail on the action and mounted a 4-14 WOTAC Gen 5 scope in Weaver tac rings, leveled and check click value. Then the last thing I did was sand blast and used flat black Aluma-Hyde on all the metal except the flutes.
I've got it to the range once since finishing and it shot just under MOA to 1015 yrds and it was super consistent with zero wandering or funky stuff!! I can dial exactly what Loadbase tells me and make solid hits.
Load is 140 Berger with 71 gr of Retumbo lit by Fed 215's going 3307 FPS.
The next phase will be a new barrel for heavy 270 bullets giving me the best of shooting light and fast and shooting high BC long range monsters in the same gun!

Sounds like you did some good work on your rig and it looks great. I love the spider web pattern-good choice of colors. Compliments on the pics too-really clear. Sounds like you got yourself one heck of a shooter. Enjoy.

green man, that's really good looking!! Man, it looks good!

I also finally got to shoot my Savage 338-300 RUM. I usually like shooting for load testing at 300 yards but this time I only had the trucks tail gate so I optioned for 100 yards. I also think I got a shooter my self.

I could not spend much on parts but I'm very happy with it.

Congratualtions on a great looking rifle!

Nice looking rig, I love Savages!

I also must congratulate on hitting the 1015 yard target through all that brush. :D

It came out nice, but you caught me, I had the same pics from shooting day at the range but they got sucked into the computer somewhere so I had to take more pics at home  I had a pic of a 3 shot group that I can cover with my hand at 1015 and a group at 600 that is about the size of a golf ball, the conditions were perfect and I was on my A game running the trigger so I feel it's about as good a this set up will do, but repeating those groups will not be as easy as the rifle for pics, but I'll try.

bigngreen,

Very nice on everything.

Especially nice metal finish.

And a great shootin' rifle!

I enlisted the assistance of a well known long range shooter/machinist/rifle smith back east on the bullet project. I think you otta try the 160 class 0.6+ BC offerings in that barrel. Ask eaglet what they look like (via PM please:cool:) Should be something available not as soon as I would expect. (I have ziltch patience!)

BTW, Assuming a 100 yd zero, 19.5 MOA @ 1000 is very decent!

Ya gotta love the .277 caliber

This barrel is the factory 1-11 twist so I would be pushed to get the 150's to shoot I think, but :D I stopped in and checked on barrel progress and I'll have it this week, it's a 1-9, 28 in barrel. Once I get that finished and I'll be ready for some of the IWK testing. I imagine it will be some time this winter when I actually get the new barrel chambered, I have a few things to get into place before I'm ready to tackle chambering, then again the reamer is sitting right here and the cordless drill is in the garage
I shot it a couple days ago, rapid fire to see if I could get it to wander with heat like it did before I worked it over, after 16 rounds there was no POI change from cold bore, I'm burning through Bergers like crazy since it is shooting so good!!!

Zero is at a 100yrds and depending on the weather I'm 19.5-20.5 MOA ish at 1015 yrds, after that it takes a dive though because of BC but I can just reach 1600yrds before I run out of adjustment.

Thanks for all the good words guys, this sure has been a great learning project!!!

Well you certainly got my attention. I like what youve done with your rifle. Cool paint/flutes, and stock, crowning (saw your other post).....thoe whole darn setup looks nice. You out did yourself.
I like the turrits on that scope. What does a wotac scope run $ wise? Are those the factory turrits? There I go wandering off topic. Sorry.
Great job on ALL the work you did. Not everyone has the tallent to pull it off. Let alone make it look good AND shoot:D.

Nice rifle bigngreen ! I really like how the flutes stand out. I was feeling okay about my 546 yard group and you said that you could cover all 3 with your hand at 1015 well their goes my feel good :)

Great Job on everything I would be very proud of a group like that , shoot I would put that on my reloading room wall if it were me .
