Suggestions: 30-378 Wby Mag & 300 Win Mag Loads

I'm about to start reloading and I'm looking for some good loads to start with for the following.

30-378 Weatherby Mag - Gonna try the Berger 210 VLD Hunting and a 200 Grain Nosler Partition

300 Win Mag - With the same bullets listed above

I'd say; something flat and fast for those two, especially the .30-378 Wby; unless you're going out pass 600 yards for big game or match steel. Any of Berger's bullets in 155gr up to 190gr VLD hunting would be a hoot. Get there fast, with the least amount of holdover, at realistic game taking ranges.

with the 300wm a 208/210gn bullet will work great for ya.and thats with 76gn of H1000 pushing one or the other.or at least they shoot great for me.and lets not for get the high BC of the two.

Hi Drenner43

I take it that you are shooting a MK5 Weatherby Accumark and not a custom built rifle with a different amount of free bore.
Also you have not stated whether you intend to go about shooting it as a single shot with an extended projectile (much longer COAL) or within the standard Weatherby magazine length.
If you are going to size your COAL to fit inside the standard Weatherby magazine length at say around 3.710 to 3.730 as I do with my Accumark then try starting with 96grains of RE25 for the 210 Berger and work up from there.

Cannot help you with the 300WinMag as I do not shoot one.

Yes I am shooting a standard MK5 Accumark and I'll be shooting using the standard magazine. Thanks for the help!

Hi Drenner43,

May I suggest you get the action bedded with Devcon and fit an aftermarket trigger such as a Timney and get the trigger pull down to a lesser poundage for much more consistent and accurate shooting.
This worked really well for me with my Accumark.
Only offering some advice here as you may develop an accurate load but might not do it justice without these mods and will end up shooting off lots of rounds in frustration all for nothing.
If your rifle is new then the barrel will need to be run in with around 40 to 50 rounds as mine did before it began to shoot accurately and that is something else in this minefield of load development.
After doing all that my 30-378 has put three bullets through the same hole at 100 yards.
My 30-378 will shoot average groups of between 1/8" and 1/4".

96gn Reloader 25
Also have a load with H50BMG from the Nosler guide I'm gonna try

Surely somebody else has some loads they like for these calibers....

Also, how many shots are you all getting out of your brass for the 300 WM and 30-378Wby Mag? thanks

for me with neck sizeing only with a Lee collet I have loaded my 300wm 5 times.and each loading on the brass has given me great groups.but now I am fixing to anneal the brass.think the necks are the reason for my 300 yard group to opening up a little.but primer pockets are still good to go.and this is with remington brass.

I was using the Redding neck sizing die and did not anneal my cases and started to split the necks after the sixth reload.
This was from running hot loads and that is why I did not give you my load as it could be dangerous in another rifle.

I am now neck annealing not only because of splitting case necks but also I believed neck tension was also causing my super tight groups to open up and also throwing in "the odd flier" all too often may I add.

I am now in the process of fire forming another 80 cases and have since bought the model 350 annealing machine from Ballistic Edge.
