325 wsm loads

Looking for a starting load for a 325 wsm. A friend of mine had one made and is looking at getting into reloading. He wants to use my equipment before he makes the dive and buy his own. I dont have any data on this cartridge and I emailed hodgden which makes the ww780 supreme he got to start loading this cartridge. He has 180 gr bullets and magnum primers. Ive got some 4831 we might use if I cant find data. Im open to suggestions.

There are online manuals available with plenty of data. Alliant and Hodgdon both have decent data available. Hodgdon has data for Winchester, Hodgdon, and IMR powders.

My personal favorites for the short mags are H4350 and Alliant Reloder 17.

edit: Just checked. There are numerous starting and max loads for the 325 WSM in the Hodgdon data center.

Yeah I seen all the loads they have posted, but he got ww780 supreme powder which is supposed to be what they use in all winchester supreme cartridges. Hodgden makes this powder but they dont have any published data for it. I have some 4831 which looks to be a good powder for the round that we can use, its just a shame they release a powder with no published data. I hate for him to buy more power and not be able to use what he got. Thanks for the info brentc.

Ahhh... I see what you're saying. In this instance I would use the data from a similar burn rated powder like H4831. Or, look at data from a similar cartridge like the 300 WSM. The loads won't be exact, but they should give you a safe place to start.

Based on the data. If it were me, I would start at 62 grains of 780 with the 180gr bullet and work up until you see pressure signs. It's your call though.

Thats about where I was thinking about starting and working up from there. I'm also going to load up some 4831 rounds just to see which will be more accurate. I've emailed hogdon a couple of times with no response on the powder, they just send me the load data they have for the 325wsm which does not include 780 in it no where. Looking at burn rate charts 780 should be a good powder for the 325 but it would be nice to have a starting point for sure, of course my buddy is gettin a little ansy with this new gun too and let the store owner talk him into this powder before doing any research.

I have had the best success with the H4350 class of powders, but I use the 220gr Sierras in mine. Out of the 24" barrel i get 2650ish for speed and great accuracy. The 220gr is excellent on deer, very little meat damage. Also a great elk and moose round as it was designed for 8mm Rem Mag velocities and hold up pretty well.
