300 RUM brass

I bought a new 308 caliber Krieger today and had it sent to my gunsmith. He will be chambering it in 300 RUM. I was just wondering what has been the best brass for this chambering and where is the best place to buy it.

I run Nosler brass. The case necks and wieghts were very consistent right out of the box. I just chamfer the cacse mouths and they are good to go. They were about $20/50 more expesive than the last reminton brass I bought, but for the consistency they are worth it to me.

If you don't mind trueing case necks, and wieght or volume sorting remington brass is fine.

I'd go with remington but just a word of warning. You'll be lucky to get more than about three firings with any 300 rum brass....Rich

I just shot my Federal brass for the 8th time and it's still going strong. I've been shooting 101.1gr of US869 beneath the Berger 210 VLD so the load is no slouch. It's unfortunate that this brass is no longer available.

Elkaholic, it is really weird how different our experience has been. I had a 7mm RUM Sendero, and I wore out the barrel with 40 pieces of Remington brass. Most of the loads were Nosler Combined Technology 150 grain bullets running at 3,440 FPS. I would guesstimate that each case was shot ten times. I only had one case go bad, and that was when I was starting too low to work up a load and the case failed to seal. The case caved in and was unuseable afterwards.

Wow! That is a different experience. I don't know why the 300 would be different than the 7 but I had three different 300's and they were all the same. I tried three different brands of dies and had the same result. After a couple of firings, the dies would not size the brass down far enough. They would stick at the web. These were NOT overloads! It didn't matter. I talked to others who had the exact same problem, and in fact, I think there was a post on this forum a while back.....Rich
P.S. The factory brass measured about .545" at the web and the dies would not size past .550" which would then stick. I guess I should qualify my earlier post by stating that "you won't get more than 3 firings without having custom dies made" ....Rich

I think a custom die and custom chamber would go a long ways.

My 7mm RUM, 300 RUM and 375 RUM REMMY brass reformed to 270 AM last maybe 10 firings. Web stretch isn't the problem. Primer pocket stretching is!

My 338 RUM with Remmy brass will last about twice as many firings as I don't load it so hot, but right up there, with a large chamber and small die.

Nosler brass with even moderate pressures lost the primer pocket on the first shot.

I have a bunch of it that I don't have a use for. It is all nickel plated. Mostly once fired, some of it twice fired. It came from a buddy who doesn't reload but shoots a lot. PM me, not going to give it away but make you a great deal.

I have been using rem brass for my. 300 ultra and have 25 cases that I have been using specifically for load development and put my fifth load through them today. Mostly mid power loads with 210gr matchkings. 95-96gr Retumbo 88-90gr Re25. Brass is holding on. Judging from the primer pockets though the 6th loads will be their last. And a little advise for the wise I save my spent brass and recycle when I get a fair amount. Not worth a whole lot but a lil extra cash never hurts.
