I went hunting over the weekend. I manage to shoot a red hind at 442 yards on Friday night.

Red hind 442 yards, 5.5MOA elevation, no windage
I was using my 7mm mag with 168 bergers doing 3087 fps. (73 gr H1000, federal brass, Federal 215 primer). Estimated impact velocity was 2530 fps.
The hind was quartering away. The projectile entered in the last two ribs of the ribcage and went forwards through the liver and lungs and lodged under the opposite front leg.

The projectile lost all its lead and I only found the copper jacket. (sorry no photos of the jacket and haven't weighed it yet).

The deer dropped on the spot and thrashed around a bit. There was a complete bleed out and almost no meat lost.

I was impressed with the performance

Great pics, I had very similar results on a Elk with the 140 gr .277 Berger bullet. I also found the jacket just under the off shoulder, very little meat damage with a very definite end of life results. Pics are worth a thousand words, double that on the internet. I'm diggin the Berger also!!

Wow!!!

tks for posting great pics great job congrats on the kill

i am working up loads now with berger on paper
can't wait to try them on game

great pics and results,

i use the 168gr vld bergers in my rem 700 in 30-06 and really love how they preform in it.
its not a custom rifle with high end barrel and trigger, but just a plain old off the shelf ADL with 20" barrel, 25moa rail and 4-16x40mm ill mildot scope,i floated the barrel and epoxy bedded the stock.

with factory rem ammo its a right at moa at 100yds.

since reloading with the bergers its brought my groups down to 3/8" measured from the outside edges of the holes at 100yds. and 3/4"outside to outside at 200 yds or .442 center to center. not bad imo for a stock rifle.

i load them about .010 of the lands, use rem brass, win lr primers, 168vld's,48.1gr h4350. i use this same load with hornady match bullets and match kings for paper.

That seems like an awfully light load? Is this a misprint?.......Rich

I use 210 VLDs in my 300 win mag. Results looked a lot like that. Except mine was straight through the shoulder and 4" exit on other side. Internal looked mangled just like that.

Go Berger!

Rich,
it sure was.
the load i use now is 58.2gr of H4350 @ approx 2757 fps for my short barrel.

i was most likley thinking of imr 4064 witch was loads in the 40's, 46-48grs before i settled into the H 4350 gave me abit better accuracy.

my very first reloads were AA 2520 @ 42.8 gr @2259 fps now that was a starting load in the lee's 2nd edition (very light load),very accurate @ 100-200yds but dropped real fast soon after.

i was new to reloading and tried to use a single type of powder to reload .223,.22-250,30-06,rem260. ya that didnt work well, soon gave that up!

good shootin,

Erik

I thought that was what you meant but wasn't sure but what you had a MAGIC barrel or something. If you did, I wanted one:D

Nice shot placement. A guy sure cant argue with results like that. Great job, and pics. Thanks for sharing, and congrats on the critter.
