release agent

I am about to start my second bedding job. the only problem is I spilled all the release agent shortly after the first. I can order some more if I need to but I've heard of using everything from white lithium grease to different kinds of wax with good results. what do you guys recommend??? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kiwi neutral shoe polish. Some use johnsons paste wax.

I wouldn't use anything with grease or oil in it. MESSY Paste wax works , paraffin
dissolved in mineral spirits is what ( I believe ) release agent is. I made some once and
it worked fine but was hard to keep things liquid up here because of the cold basement
and shop.

+1 on the Kiwi neutral shoe polish. Buy it at a shoe store, WalMart, whereever. Put it on everywhere, let it dry, buff it with a paper towel to get it polished and smooth. Put some on a Q-Tip to coat the inside of the pillars and rub it all over the action screws. Works great.

I normally use alignment studs so there is no chance of getting any epoxy into the bolt recess of the rifle. If you use the receiver screws, plug the holes with plumbers putty that will be forced into the action when you insert the receiver screws - it minimizes getting epoxy inside the bolt lug recess.

ok I'm leaning toward johnsons paste wax, can somebody walk me through the application?

Meguiar's carnuba car wax. Apply with a Q tip in the tight spots and your finger in the wide spots. Works like a champ. Have done well over 50 rifles with it.

I'd highly recommend you get Richard Franklin's bedding video. It's #4 on this page Instructional Videos

Richard does a really good job of explaining how to bed a rifle and doesn't use anything exotic. Devcon 10110, Kiwi shoe polish, and so forth.
