Hello

I want to start developing a load for my 264 Win Mag Sako. The specs are:
24inch barrel
1:9 twist

I want to load 140gr SGK. What would the ideal speed be for the best groupings. I will be shooting between 300-500 yards. . At what speeds do the SGK perform at its best? The reason for the heavier bullet is because I am going Oryx hunting in June. Any comments will be much appreciated

The 140 Sierra is a pretty soft bullet. It is really made for the 260 Rem, 6.5X55 class of rifles. I have used this bullet on whitetail deer out of a 6.5X55 at 2800 fps and it really expands and comes apart out to around 150 yards. I would suggest that you try the Nosler 130 gr Accubond bullet. I used this bullet with 66.5 grs of Hodgdon Retumbo with a CCI 250 primer a WW case reformed from 7mm Rem mag with an OAL of 3.450 which is 10 thousands off the lands of my rifle. I got 3350 fps. My 700 Rem. rifle has a 27 3/4" Shilen barrel. I used this combination to take 4 whitetail deer this past season from 98 to 275 yards and this bullet worked perfectly. I recovered one bullet from a deer that was shot at 111 yards with a slight angle was facing me. The bullet entered the front edge of the left shoulder made soup of the vitals and was found in the right ham. The bullet was a text book mushroom and weight was 87 grs. That bullet had to still be going at least 3200 fps on impact and to expand perfectly and hold together like it did it is a super bullet.

Thanks for the heads-up on the SGK. Accubonds are quite scarce in South Africa. Do you have any experience with Nosler Partitions? Thanks

Partitions work well. If you can find some H870 then that is the best powder I have found for the 264 WM. If not US869 works well too. 76gr of US869 should get you around 3000-3050 FPS in a 24" barrel.

You may want to try RL25. 64gr should get you a similar speed.
