I just recieved my new 7MM Dakota from Len on monday. So far it has been every thing I had hoped for. After shooting 13 rounds through it cleaning between each round. I shot a 3 shot group that measured .412". Using Berger 180 g Hunting VLD's, 73 g H-1000 and 3.330 OAL. These were rounds I made up before I recieved the Rifle So I haven't even started to play with Bullet seating depth or different powder charges.
Details of the Rifle - Broughton Barrel, Phoenix Action, Jewell Trigger, Side port Muzzle break (Not sure who made it) OD green Cerekote and Manners T-2 stock with 5 color custom camo. Also Had Len Mount a Huskemaw Scope. Have not had to touch the scope it is exactly 1/2 inch high at 100 yds. I Have Leupold's and Swarovski's on my other Rifles and I am very happy with the clarity and functionality of the Huskemaw. I believe it to be every bit as good as my Leupolds. Not as crisp as my Swarovski. Soon as I get the Barrel broke in I will be working on getting my true BC's to send in for my RFBC Turret. I have picture but could not figure out how to get them in. I will send them to Len.

Doug, I just got back from a range session with Dennis Fleischer, fellow Wisconsin XP100 handgun shooter. So here is your target picture that you emailed to me.

Looks pretty good. I love it when they shoot that well right off the bat without any load development.

For the record, that was the conservative starter load that I suggested. My personal clone rifle uses a few more grains of the same powder and bullet but work up carefully.

Remember, Doug. The velocity with a given weight of powder will continue to increase as the round count goes up to maybe 60 rounds. So wait a while to start collecting drop data for use in ordering your custom Huskemaw turret cap.

Thanks. I bumped the poweder up to 75 gn today chrono was showing 3000 - 3040 no sign of pressure problems. How far from the lands do you seat your bullets? I have shot 40 rnds so far. cleaning every round for the first 10 then every 3 to 5 since. gun)

Unless you are actually still seeing lots of coppering after 3 to 5 shots, it is probably time to settle into 25 shots between cleaning.

Here is a link to Berger's article on OAL and distance to lands. Erick Stecker explains it better than I can.
