Painkiller Muzzle Brakes! Thanks Fiftydirver!

I had a small PK installed on my 7 mag that was getting rebarrelled. I got the gun back last week and headed out to break in the barrell. I just wanted to let Kirby know and everyone else that the brake is AWESOME! VERY mininmal kick, I was wearing ear muffs, but it didn't have that ear piercing crack like other brakes and it looks great! Thanks again. Brent

I had Kirby put a Slim PK brake on my 300 RUM. With 210gr Bergers and a maximum charge of Retumbo it still recoils noticeably less than my .308 win.

The PK brake is much more efficient than my Vais brake. Easier to clean too.

I dont have any photos of my gun (I dont have a camera for that matter) but I can tell ya that after barrell break in (30 rounds) I started load development and with 71 grains of Retumbo, 168 bergers, Nosler brass lit by a 215M, the gun shot an honest .5" and a .75" MOA group( 5 shot groups off a bipod). I'm not to thrilled about my ES (66 on 1 group and 80 on the other group). I had better ES with the 180 bergers (low 20's) with three different groups but group size was 1.25" to 1.5". I am hoping the barrell will stabilize soon. Headed back out tommorow with some more loads lit by different primers to see what happens.

I'd try some different primers. I have a 7mm, and it never liked the 215M. I had much better luck with the non-magnum primers (Remmy 9 1/2) and Norma brass. Once I switched primers, my ES and SD came way down.

Glad you like the PK, they do work pretty well!!! The PK is designed specifically to protect the shooter from the muzzle blast then other muzzle brake designs while still offering the recoil reduction. This is accomplished by larger exhaust ports to reduce escaping muzzle gas velocity but also by directing the gas in a very focused direction with the slab style angled ports.

While the muzzle blast is generally much less to the shooter and rear positioned spotter, someone positioned to the side of the shooter may fine the muzzle blast extremely intense!!!

Anyway, glad she is perfroming for you.

If I could recommend a bit of loading advice. I have never liked Retumbo or anything that slow in the 7mm Rem Mag. I have always liked powders such as RL-22 and H-4831 for this capacity case and this class of bullets. Generally gets a bit more velocity then the Retumbo class and generally produces less carbon fouling as well then the shower powders.

Thanks for the advice, I just got back from shooting another round and I found its "sweet spot" with 71.5 grs. retumbo, WLRM primers & 168's @ the lands. I'll do some long distance load tuning the next couple days and hopefully she'll be good to go. If today didn' t work out I got a bunch of H4831 ready to roll. I guess I got caught up in all the BOTW propoganda cause all I ever shot in my 30-338 win. was H4831 and I was bound and determined to shoot retumbo in the new barrel. The difference in primers lowered the ES to 27 for 1 group and 23 for another group. I'll try some BR2's next.

Anyhow, I didn't want this post to be me blabbing about my gun, I just wanted give Fiftydriver (I spelled it right this time) a grade A on the PK!
