Would a 20in barrel create enough velocity to stabilze the 115 DTAC or any of the heavier bullets?

so its more about twist rate than velocity, right?
yes it is about the twist to stabilize the bullets

Right on brother me too, mine is going to be a 6mmx284 19" 8 twist 4 groove..

1-8 twist in your .243 Win...? I was shooting a 30" 243 WSSM just under 2950 fps'…., I couldn't the DTAC 115gr. bullets too track straight at 1k... 600 yards it was still not where it needed too be. I was shooting the 1-8 twist... spoke to Tubbs... he thought 1-8 "might??", "should" "could" or "would"????'…, at that time; stabilize it with that kinda kick I had. It turned out I had to go to a 1.6.5 to get them where they needed to be. Not saying the accuracy was poor from a 1-8 twist, but I defiantly picked up quite a few more 10's and X's when I made the change. I just can't help think a faster twist in a shorter barrel might help some what.
Maybe not; perhaps mine is an isolated case... but I would've thought a 30" barrel at 2950 fps plus in a 1-8 twist would have turned that 115gr fast enough.

well i guess i might have to go with 7.5.... i think thats what shilen offers.... 105 amax would be fine though...just need to kill prairie dogs....
