Will a 9.5 rate of twist stabilize the 7mm .284 162 gr A-MAX?
What bullets with over .6 BC will stabilize with a 9.5 rate of twist?
Thanks for the help.

Hey Liltank I was looking at the 162 gr A-MAX and the box called for a 8 twist. Have you tried the A-MAX with a 9.5 or slower? I probably should just buy some and try them but also don't want to waste time and money if someone knows they won't work. Thanks

I've not used them, but they should work. You really don't need a 1:8 until you start shooting the 175SMK's and 180 Berger's. The 1:9 to 1:9.5 should handle the 162's and 168's without any trouble.

I have tried the 162 A max in a 1-9.5 and they shoot great. The twist does a fine job the only reason i stopped useing them was the bad performance i got on a game animal at about 50 yards

What were your experiences with their performance? Did they explode or not expand at all? How do you think they will do at longer ranges? Last question what are you using now? OK one more question :D What do you recommend? Thanks

I used the 162 a-max in my 7mm mag at 3060 fps. Because it is a soft bullet I did not use it inside 300 yds. I have shot red deer, pig and tahr with it out to 638 yds. It has performed incredibly well at these ranges. All shots were one shot kills, all but one were DRT.
It is an excellent long range bullet, but IMHO is too soft to use at close range. I use a 160 accubond inside 300 yds and switch to the 162 a-max or 168 berger for shots past 300 yds.

Stu.

My experience was it did not expand at all. I was shooting them at 3350FPS and maybe at 50 yards it had not had a chance to slow down enough. I was useing a 7mm STW. Being that you have a ultra mag your speed would be similar and the results might be similar as well. I switched to Berger and since switching we have not lost a deer yet. I would recommend the Bergers but if you are not high sholder shot kind of guy then i have had good success with the Nosler Ballistic tip.
