I an in the process of purchasing a savage 12bvss in 22-250 and wanted you experts opinions on what accessories to use. I have purchased a Bushnell Elite 4-15 Tactical with a mil-dot reticle. Wanted more info on what rings and base you guys recommend. I would like to successfully tak ground hogs out to the 500 yd range and looking for a set up that will help get me there.

i would look at egw bases and and burris extreme rings, they work for me and there affordable....gun)

+1 on the EGW base and Burris Signature Z rings. They come with different offset inserts

Thanks for all the great advice. I will place the order from swfa. Do most of you go with the medium or tall rings and Im assuming I would want the 0 MOA base from EGW.

If your objective bell is under 50mm, mediums will be fine, unless you got a real fat barrel. I got a EGW 20MOA base and 44mm obj scope and plenty of clearance on my 1.250" dia barrel.

You got good recommendations here, I got the EGW base and burris xtreme tactical rings. Get the 20MOA base, incase you want to reach out further. The xtreme tactical bases are rock solid, mine have survived two plane flights in a crappy case without the slightest change in POA/POI.
The rings with offsets will give you even more adjustment. Be nice to get the 20MOA base and rings with a set of offsets so you can always add more elevation via offsets as your skill level grows and you want to hit some P dogs at ever extending ranges.

I got the 20 moa base direct from EGW and the burris signature z rings from opticsplanet, they had the best price and free shipping.
I went with the mediums and I'm using a 50mm scope. The EGW base has some height to it.

I have the 20MOA and the 20MOA inserts in my Signature Z's. I wanted to get my turrets as close to zero minutes at my zero as I could. I currently have 50MOA adjustment in my scope thanks to this setup.

Thanks guys I really appreciate all the great input. I will go with the 20 MOA on the EGW. Look forward to getting it setup! Thanks again, this forum is excellent!

If u haven't already started loading for it i'd take a look at the 60 gr. JLK Low DRag--that's probably the highest BC bullet that'll stabilize out of it (.34), and oughtta' get u the best downrange ballistics bang for your buck. Here's what a buddies factory Savage Striker 22-250 did with the 1st 425-yd. gp. working on calculations for reticle only--

The JLK Low Drags have on avg. given me the best accuracy so far out of the 22 centerfires.

I would also use the reticle for long-range reference instead of the turret at least for awhile, as using that system will teach u more about your optic than turret twisting will. Many guys that just use turret never fully understand how to calculate interpolating between stadia lines or points in a BDC-style reticle--something i consider to be an important part of the system. If the MD is calibrated for a power lower than the highest i'd learn to apply it for downrange zeroing and rangefinding at it's highest power (if it's a 2nd focal plane reticle). This is the only way to shoot groundhogs at ranges approaching 500 +/- with a MD reticle, IMO.
