Guess the title says it all.

MY 338RUM bushing die will not take a .307" bushing and size the neck without collapsing the neck

My 300RUM FL die will not size the neck all the way down

Thinking about rechambering a 300 win mag by using a 300RUM reamer and running it in only enough to chamber for a 30/338RUM. Want something in between the 300 win mag and 300RUM, without a belt and without a muzzle brake like a 300RUM needs (IMO).

I would think that you would need to have a middle step, like sizing to a 8mm, then step down to 308. You may also need to anneal the casenecks at the intermediate step.

Also would you not need a bushing around .332 for a 308 caliber rifle? That is the bushing I use for my 300rum...

Wouldn't a 300 dakota pretty much fill the gap you are looking at?

Talk to the die makers (Hornady,Redding,RCBS Etc. and they may have one or build one for
you.

Hornady has built me several sets of custom dies and they were great.

OR load the 338 rum down with 180 or 200 gr bullets and use a barrel 1 or 2 size larger
and you will tame that recoil.

Sounds like way more trouble then it's worth!

Why not just chamber it for the .300RUM and load it down to the desired performance? Remington even has factory ammo that comes in three different power levels.

You're right, I was thinking about a .307" bullet grip but the bushing I tried was .329".

Suppose I could order some intermediate bushings between the .361" that I use for the 338RUM and the .329" that I have for 30 caliber.

From the case drawings the 300 Dakota would need a little bolt face work and the barrel would have to be set back a little more. The velocities for the 300 win mag and 300 Dakota are almost identical in the manuals, was hoping for a little more but not as much as the 300RUM.

Also have lots of 338RUM brass.

A 30/375 Ruger would be nice as I also have lots of 375 Ruger brass but someone would have to have a reamer or I would have to have one made.

Call me crazy, but I always wanted a beltless 300 win mag that would push the 200 gr Accubond at an honest 3000 fps, the 300 win mag won't quite get there.

Probably so, but I reload for 3 of the 300RUM's and have no desire for one. IMO they are a pain to reload for and kick like hell. My magazine in the 300 win mag I have is probably too short since the 300RUM is so long. I can load to the lands with the 300 win mag but the 300RUM's are long and long throated so there would be problems with shooting factory if I set the lands where I can reach them.
