I have a rem 700 la stock from hs precision and I was wanting to put it on my christensen arms. The only problem is the carbon fiber barrel wont fit. Can I have a gunsmith ream it out to make it fit or will it ruin the stocks forearm support? It shoots great with the stock remington plastic stock thats free floated but im worried from different positions/ rests on the forearm will make it touch the barrel and ruin accuracy.
Thanks

Have you called HS Precision? When I lived in Rapid City I took my HS Precision stock to them for some work and they did it while I waited and didn't charge me. It seems you could just give them the size of the barrel and they will fix it.

I called them and they said I should sell the one I have and buy a new one with the varmint forearm. They said the forearm is too small to accept the larger size barrel. It sure seems big enough? O well anyone need a stock...? lol

IMO, B&C makes as good of a stock for less $$$. Something to think about...

I think I might have to have one custom made. I dont really want the large flat forearm contour that fits the same size barrel and I dont want to spend $550! on a christensen arms stock.

The old style Sendero HS stock (Varmint) does not have a real big flat bottom forearm. It is a little larger than a sporter stock, but not a whole lot. I would give B&C a call and tell them the dimensions of your barrel and see what they say.

It could probably work but I dont know how straight I could get the channel and I dont really want to ruin a $300 stock if it doesnt work right. When I can maybe sell it and get the right one. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I just called Christensen Arms for the actual barrel contour and they said it is a #4. I also asked them about my HS stock and fitting and he said it will work fine. He said they do it all the time. He said I could send him my gun and stock and they would ream the hs stock to fit the barrel and would glass bed/ free float for $250 total. That sure seems like a lot to me? What do you guys think? Im kinda worried about my stock now. Iv heard that no matter how good you bed an HS that they still suck? Anyone else heard this? I want to make sure I do this all right the first time as far as stock rifle combo. Am I better off selling it or what?

I have never heard anyone say that the HS stocks are bad. I have only heard good about them and that they occasionally need a little work for a high spot or whatever. I have two Sendros with HS stocks and I like them. They needed to have some paint scrapped from the bedding block and I think whey eill benefit from bedding the lugs, but other than that they are a solid plattform.

#4 contour is different from one barrel maker to the other. What you need is the actual diameter measurements. You should be able to sand out your forearm for your barrel yourself fairly easy then shoot it. If it shoots well, you may not have to bed it.

I have read mixed reviews on Christensen, mostly negative. I personally would not have them work on anything of mine. I hope your experience with them is a good one.

+1 to what Mark said.

I had a Sendero that needed minor adjustments to the bedding where it was not perfect. a little Black marker on the bottom of the receiver to touch the bedding to see whether it is fitting correctly and some elbow grease to fix.

I also had pressure point, minor where the forearm was not completely free floating. Sandpaper did the trick.

And torquing the bolt properly was the final trick to get my 25-06 in the .2 grouping range.

I have also heard less than good things about Christensen....Not all bad, but enough to make me wary of their products. I am sure there are satisfied customers as well but I play it safe due to limited amount of assets to fritter away.

I changed my mind again lol! I think I am just going to sell the hs and buy one of the grey bull stocks. I talked to them today and they said it should fit my barrel without modification to the channel. I like the higher comb on the stock for larger 50mm scopes and it looks comfortable to shoot. They also said if I dont like it or anything that they would take it back no prob. Thanks for all the help. Also does anyone know of a good smith to bed it the Pheonix, Az area? Iv heard its not that hard to do but Id rather have someone else do it right the first time.
