I was looking for some information as to building a .338 Edge from a Savage 110 action. Is this safe first of all? Do you have to use a Large shank or will a small shank do? Do any of you have this configuration built and if so what are your results with it? I am looking to build an Edge and my past experience with the Savage long action has been very good, however I have never personally seen one in such a large caliber. For that matter, would this action work with a .338 Lapua?

Thanks for any information you may be able to lend!

Yes, it's safe. I'm just finishing one if the dang barrel will ever show up.

It's on a small shank.

They can be made as a repeater with some work. New centerfeeds are easier, stagger feeds need to be opened up a bit. Both magazines will have to be modified.

I know there are a couple guys here that have already done it. AJ Peacock built one on a WSM short action large shank, and Earl Fouraker built one on a centerfeed long action.

I've got two built on small shank actions. One is staggered feed one is center feed. The center feed will be alot easier to make into a repeater than the staggered was.

Savage has a redesigned action coming out for the Lapua in the BAS rifle. Hopefully they'll put it in some rifles that aren't so "tacticool" also.

I built it's dad on a LRPV/Target action (I know....it is a large shank).

338 RUM, 300 gr SMK, and 2950 fps from a 32" Rock Creek Barrel.

I have the one Earl built and it is a great shooter. Single shot with 30" pac-nor tube. .3-.4 pretty easy all day long.

acloco,

2950 from a 338 RUM w the 300 SMK? WOW isnt this Edge speed from a RUM? Is this due to the 32 inch tube adding that much speed? If I could get this kind of speed out of a RUM, I would be tempted to build it instead of an EDGE as I already have one in a sporter weight and have all of the reloading gear for it. I get about 2950 w a 250 gr pill out of my 26 inch barrel.
