need some help with a problem

Hi everyone new to the forum....
I didnt even know how to search for this so if its out there already sorry for the repeat & please give me a link. Now that that is out of the way. Here we go....
I have a old made in German made 270 Weatherby mag. mark V with Talley rings & bases. I just put a leupy vx-3 3.5-10x40mm on it & took it to the range to dial it in. I go to bore sight it @ 25yds & with the bore on target I run out of down adj. on the scope! So to be clear I can see the bull in the barrel & the scope crossars are at the top of the target with no more down adj. Your thoughts on what to do. Thanks everyone

I'm not sure if the scope is the only new variable here? But it could be in the rings and bases, if the rings and bases are new as well call gary at talley and trade em out he is a pretty good guy, I had a problem with one set six years ago the only differance was it was hitting left, he got me fixed up with new ones and I never had a problem agian and I've had 14 sets of his rings and bases. Did the gun shoot with another scope? I had a ruger that the reciver wasn't machined right and it wouldn't get close with any ring or scope.

The rings & bases have been on there for about 4 yrs. Over the winter I i had a gunsmith restock it with B&C carbalite stock & had it glassed. I had a weaver classic scope on it. I took it to the gun range last weekend & the weaver seemed to be acting funny (not holding center). So thats were the Leupy came into play. Up till now the gun has been a 1 shot 1 kill gun.

oh. I wonder if he got to much pressure on the barrel? Take your gun apart and put four to five business cards under the shank of your barrel. If it will shoot then you probably just need to have him releave the barrel channel a bit and reglass it with less pressure. My buddy dave had this problem.

Either way it probably lies in the bedding.

By no more "down adjustment" does this mean that you are turning the elevation turret down? .

yes, I can see cross coming down as I turn the elevation knob & then I run out of "clicks"

With the gun secured and you see the target centered in the bore, and the crosshairs are high on the target then turn the elevation turret in the opposite direction you want the crosshairs to move. Even though the crosshairs are way high, try turning the elevation turret up and watch the crosshairs come down.

Were you turning the elevation turret in the "up" direction or the "down" direction when you were adjusting the scope crosshairs?

well now that you mention it & looking at the turret looks like i was turning it in the up direction. But as I was turning it in the up direction the cross was dropping on the target.

Cool. I just wanted to make sure you were turning it in the right direction to move the crosshairs down.

If you think it's a bedding problem all you'd have to do is take the barreled action out of the stock and try it with out the possibility of the stock interfering..

You had me going there for a min. I thought i was going crazy! I was thinking of taking the barreled action out of the new stock & putting it in the old one. Is that what you are suggesting?
