45 ACP on Brown Bear.????

I was going to carry my S&W 460 but is heavy as heck. 5 shots. Maybe get one maybe two shots off. At least you could hit it in the head with it. Same thing with my Ruger Super Redhawk 454. Thought about Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 mag. Light. But not thrilled about single action. Thought maybe my Glock 21 45 auto with hard cast. 14 rds. Maybe. I bought a Glock 20 10mm and Springfield XDM 10mm. Didn't like grip safety on XDM , why I never considered my Colt 45 auto with a 10 rd. mag. I shot same load on paper at 15 and 25 yds. 16 rds. The Glock 20 10mm had half the size group. Done deal. I put a 3.5 trigger bar in it like I do in all my Glocks. Lowered to 5 pds. My Glock 21 lowered to 3.5 lbs. All I carry now is my Glock 20 with one in pipe and 15 rd. mag in a Gunfighter chest holster. I carry bear spray also on hip. I don't want the confusion of which to use first though and have always wondered. If I have time I'm pulling both. If no time I'm pulling pistol. My Chesapeake gives my more warning than my deaf ears. 😉 It's Scary hunting in North Fork when alone and some places in South Fork. You get an elk or deer down your head is on a swivel and cut up as fast as you can and haul ***.
I bow hunt some locations that have big bears. Carrying a side arm IS mandatory. If I were hunting with a long gun, I'd still carry a side arm. Two is better than one

True. You can't cut up an animal with a rifle in your hand. I've had buddy's stand by with rifle while I worked on animal. Grizz are thick here. I think the que in on gunshots.

Million dollar idea.

Micro bear spray that attaches to the rail on our glocks. Discharges with the first trigger pull.
Fuzzy is gettin hot lead and spray simultaneously
Great idea. Until then spray in left hand and pistol on right if I have time and not charging. Or if I see him first . It can bluff charge in to my spray or my rifle scope 😉

I'd never do a solo bow hunt in bear country. We always have a 12 GA shotgun in camp.
I won't bow hunt here in griz country by myself. I do sometimes with rifle , pistol , spray and dog. Still scary chit if gets into trees. I've turned buck a few times with hair standing on neck after looking s big griz tracks. No thanks .

You can carry pistol here while bowhunting. It's hairy walking out with a backpack full of meat. Stop . Look around. Same when cutting up elk or deer. I stop every few minutes and stand up and look around. Did with my Muley and elk last year. The elk was in the same area at Bobcat Hulahand trail where two University of Wyoming wrestlers got mauled a week before. That day they did I was coming home on South Fork and saw a bunch of F&G , Sheriff's and an ambulance pass me going back up. Next day I read what happened. A week later I shot my elk there. I was doing a lot of looking around and butchering quick. Helped buddy with his also a 125 yards from me after I got mine to truck. A month later we came back to look for a knife. Griz has tore both carcasses apart and ripped up sage all around to cover up and bear cr@p all over. No knife . Let's go !
