How to harden schools.

There are several roads to take; harden schools with real STEEL security doors, install security drop isolation doors in hallways to curtail further access (no different than fire doors), manned security video to have vigilance before an assault, this person would have have been seen prior to entry on video, armed RSO tied to functional security plan. Test the response plan with administration, teachers and students at least twice a year.

Reality is evil cannot be 100% defeated but it can be made more difficult.
The shooter was seen on outside video driving by the school BEFORE parking and entering.

I don't see why the corporate mentality couldn't be used for schools. I have only been to one or two large manufacturing companies lately that do not have a gate to gain access through. Either you scan a keycard or you better come up with a valid reason for being there.
Actual building is usually quite a ways from main gate and fenced surrounding it. Seems like a possible/partial solution?

In my previous career, I built big buildings, to include schools and prisons. Technology and hardware exist to magnetically lock a door and also to have a sensor that will notify a control panel/guard when that door is open. Very simple to retrofit old buildings to afford a secure perimeter. Glass door lites are easily replaced with aluminum panels. No need for continuous physical full security oversight at each entrance. One way in and one way out all day.

While ideal for security it's not practical or desirable for schools. You need multiple entry exits to let the kids out for activities and emergencies. But you can make the school a hard target by keeping the locked up.

I am super thankful the Lord put it on our hearts to homeschool a few years back, definitely prepared us for what the public school setting produces in today's society. Meanwhile not only can my 9 year old do the basic arithmetic and reading on a standard level; he can run a 21ft bass boat, hook up a trailer, make a deal on Craigslist, can out work a lot of men I know, and will be able to handle his finances independently at a very young age. He also knows he is a boy, and that decision was made by God.

If you really dig into the statistics. The gun Phobia people wanted to ban 50 cal weapons for you and I. You wonder why? NO 50 cal was ever used in a mass shooting. no person could afford a $8000 Barret . I was working at the FBI head quarters in Washington DC in the mid 90's and I went to the gun lab to see what they were doing. I ask about this or that and I mentioned do you have any examples of my given to me Safari elephant killing 26 inch .458 win mag

No body on record had ever killed a person in the US with a .458 win mag. So they asked me for bullet shot examples. I went to a sheriffs department when I got home and we shot the 405 Barnes X and 500 and 510 grain Into water and they sent them to the FBI.

Heck, even our church has armed security and lock down procedures.
Any security personnel can initiate lockdown if things go "South" and accesses to the childrens church, nusery, sanctuary, and lobby are locked from entry automatically. Solid doors... not glass. (egress is still possible... just not entry).

PD does have access upon arrival.

Multiple lockdown stations at mutiple access points. Accessed with either numerical code or card swipe by security. Not really that expensive. Prevents an attacker from gaining access and prohibits travel from room to room.

Personally I am all in on better hardening of schools and it can be done without turning them into hideous prison like atmosphere. The security technology is readily available if people choose to do so. There is even light and sound technology that can disorient someone.

Lets not forget there were 80+ bombs in Columbine that triggers were built wrong. We have to prevent entry, train people better to recognize situations. Cannot be afraid to hurt someone's feelings to harden schools.
Thus the value in armed security with closed circuit camera surveillance.
This is not brain surgery.
Easy solutions... but then again, how would "the agenda" be progressed if shootings are resolved?

I'd get the Feds out of local schools, and with them curriculum focussed on divisive issues. Turn down the heat, and put parents back in charge.

Drugs, both over the counter, and prescribed. Since we're several generations of drug addicts deep now, both the cultural issues, and brain altering substances have taken their toll.

Maybe instead of knowing how many, and what kinds of guns were involved, an informed discussion regarding the drugs involved would be useful.

Significant meds are being mandated by the schools, meds that really no one knows their effects, and big Pharma will never allow us to see the damage they've caused.
