Is 26 Nosler abandoned?

Same thing that happened to the .264 win mag when remingtons "big 7" rolled out. And the reason the 6.5-300 wby is never going to compete with any of the ultra 7mm cartridges for sales or ability. Only Nosler did it to their own cartridge with their 28 haha.

The 6.5s shine in efficient to moderate magnum cartridges that don't have much recoil or blast and perform well above their pay grade in the field.

Once you get into true magnum case capacity anything they can do a 7mm on the same case can do better and honestly while the recoil might be a tad more the blast on these overbore cartridges is more bothersome than the kick. I don't find 6.5s or 7mms really have that much recoil either way. There are literally no cons and many pros to going 7mm at that case capacity.

The same does not hold true going up again - and I'm a die hard .30 caliber fan, and don't own a 7mm of any kind at the moment so you know I'm not biased in its favour - but there are some things the big 7mms do better than the big 30s. But honestly, I even did a poll pitting the 7 and the 30 cal against each other…doesn't matter which you choose, those two are the kings of all purpose all range all non dangerous game magnum cartridges out of easy to carry in the field rifles with acceptable shootable recoil.

The monster 6.5s aren't efficient, burn out barrels faster, have just as much blast and nearly as much recoil, and inferior performance to the big 7s and 30 mags. Just my opinion but it's not an opinion out of thin air.

Well said. If I was going to build a 26 it would be the Nosler but I have a 28 Nosler so I see no point in any of the 26 cals or any of the other 28 cal magnums. I do own several 30s also but the 28 Nosler is a bad *** cartridge.

Guessing this will be as popular as a turd in a punchbowl with y'all:

Plan is to punch mine out to a 40* shoulder, use the same dies as my 30-338 LIMP and 338 LIMP.

A turd in a punch bowl hahaha I haven't heard that one before.

I have read up on this cartridge before tho…just because i wouldn't do it doesn't mean I'm not itching to know how this turns out for ya!

7mmSTW reinvented lol like so many others. We will see what survives. Hopefully the Needmoor dies 🤣🤣 6.5x55 & 260 Reinvention

I have a cartridge drawn up similar but based on a 338 Norma Case. Fits better in magazines.

I think most people are realizing they don't need a bullet traveling 3000fps+ to do what they need. With rangefinders and dialing scopes, efficient cartridges burning less powder, lower recoil, and longer barrel life are the trend. Not to mention significantly cheaper factory ammo.

While you're at it just neck down a 408CT to a 26cal.
Nah, the case ends up shorter than 1.500" and a 40* shoulder is too much for it. Starting with 338 Lapua/ 338 Norma you can get to where the COL with a 153.5/156 is ~2.800" at 80-90 gn of case H2O capacity. 300 Norma brass is cheaper, but I have more 338 Lapua laying around. Either is long enough.

I might have ordered a Rem 700 short action bolt with the .590 bolt face from PTG. Why not?

I've never had a 26 Nos... I tried to buy a Hell's canyon smoke, but Browning discontinued the rifle before my lgs got any. IRRC I told them I'd buy either a 26 or 28; it didn't really matter as I just wanted the rifle.
As to torching pipes and running them hard... I run my 7stw at just shy of 3400 fps with a 140 ab.. I suppose I could push it faster, but stuff dies well when I hit it and I might just get a few hundred more rounds out of her if I don't beat it within an inch of it's life. This is my 3rd 7stw barrel and I'm not keen on dropping coin on a 4th soon. The same goes for my 7rum; 3rd bbl... I'm running 175 eld-x at 2900 fps with her and she kills like lightning.
I suppose in a few hundred rounds I'll have to change the primary load I've put through my 7stw barrels for 20+ years... I'm not playing where's Waldo trying to find Accubonds OR rl25... I might look at Speer or Hornady. Heck, I've probably got 600 Sierra 140 pro hunters on the shelf and no rifle to shoot them in. I might run wc872 or aa8700 and those pills...
