I'm wondering if anybody has seen this before . So I have a 30 nosler built on a rem 700 with proof barrel 1-10 twist 26" .
I received this gun in a trade and it's shot great since I got it.
The previous owners load was 210 vld with 84 gr retumbo.
My load I'm using 205 elite with 81 gr of
RL 26 at 3060 fps.
The brass wants to separate after about the 3rd firing.
So I backed off my load to 79.5 gr but I do not think its pressure now.
Hope fully you can see in the picture where it's wanting to separate.
You can see the line about 3/4 " up from the case head on the fired cases.
So I looked at my sized but unfired cases and you can the see the same line on the unfired brass. Primer pockets are like new.
I believe that this could flawed brass but thought I would get a second opinion.
I was suspecting pressure until I seen it on the unfired cases. And I didn't think 3060 fps was overly hot for a 30 nosler.
My dies are Redding.
First pic is fired 2x brass. Would not make a second firing.
Second pic is one on 3 firing almost split right though.
3 rd pic you can see the line in the same spot that the split happens but on a new sized and unfired piece .
Any thoughts on this ?

If possible cut it along the length direction. This will allow you to see the thickness variation.
That was not easy cutting but here's what I have.
First two pics are unfired and you can see the line where the issue is or I hope you can I can see it, second 2 pics is a piece of twice fired .
On the unfired piece I know you guys won't be able to see it but where the line is on the outside the brass it is a different colour on the inside.

It's hard to get the lighting for this one but you can see the line on the unfired piece lines up with the line on the pieces that's twice fired and ready to separate

Check and see if this is where the cases rub when flipped upside down in your ammo case.

If your chamber is cut long then I could suspect on first firing the brass grew to much. But cad head seperation is usually lower than your picture.
Funny you say that about where it rides in the ammo case because I looked at that before I posted and when put in kneck down that's where the line is but my brass is only in this position from the range where I shoot back to the house so very limited time in that position so I didn't think that would be an issue

When you have resized the brass are you pushing the shoulder back a certain amount? Or did you set up the sizing die per the instructions?

Your pictures seem to show classic case head separation but a little further forward. I suspect you are pushing the shoulder back to far.
ADG makes great brass. I have used them since they started. Their customer service has been excellent for me. I would call them. The line on the new case looks like a annealing line to me and is not related to your problem.

I did it per the instructions.
You need to measure a new, a fired and a sized case. We use a Hornady headspace gauge for this. You only need to set the shoulder back. 002 measured at the shoulder datam line. There is many threads about how to solve this problem. We have All gone through this at one time or another.

Okay thanks for the advice. I will try to locate a headspace guage.
